Every now and then, a melody finds its way back to your spirit; timeless, floating in like a warm breeze from the past. That’s exactly how Somewhere Over the Rainbow feels to me.

This iconic Ballard, Originally performed by Judy Garland in the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz, has long stood as a symbol of longing, hope, and imagination. It’s one of those rare pieces that feel both nostalgic and new every time you hear it. And for this week’s Vibes Web3 Music Competition (Week 37), themed around songs from the 1930s and 1940s, it called out to me again.

Rather than singing, I decided to let the instruments do the storytelling, paying homage to the original while adding a gentle modern touch of my own. I went for something simple, soft, and emotional. A bit dreamy. A bit distant. Like you’re staring out the window, thinking about a place you’ve never seen, but deeply believe in.

This cover is not just a performance but it’s also quiet tribute. To Judy Garland. To timeless songwriting. And to every dreamer who still finds comfort in the line “there’s a land that I heard of once in a lullaby…”
