Freezing Knights by TinyEvilWizard is a turn-based RPG in which you control two knights and battle many enemies as they make their path to the top of the mountain.
I love how the turn-based system of Freezing Knights, it looks great and offers just enough customization features. You can dodge the enemies attacks if you time your jump accurately. When its the enemies turn, a tutorial comes on top of the screen to teach you how the game systems worked. Freezing Knights is a very polished game for PICO-8.
The aesthetic appeal of this game is perfect. Instead of choosing the actions from a text menu, the battle menu uses symbols and presents them in a way that's pleasant to navigate.
I would love to play this game through completion!!
In this video recording I play thtrough the first two battles of the game. I liked to record more but I encountered some technical problems and stopped the recording. I played a few levels after that. I wish I recorded the campfire section of the game as it massively adds to the vibe of Freezing Knights.
PICO-8 is a Fantasy Console designed to create, share and play small retro-inspired games. Games made for PICO-8 are constrained in aethistics, code and size to encourage creativity. PICO-8 comes with a built-in code editor, graphics, and sound tools. Games are distributed in image files called Cartridges. When I first heard about the Pico-8, I figured it would be simple releases, not really games, and for the most part it was. Then as developers and fans got comfortable with the platform, things improved a lot. Freezing Knights is one of those amazing titles I would have never figured would be developed for the Pico-8.
Going through your content to check out your other reviews and posts about the Pico-8, I am hoping you saw the Metroidvania games - some of those are absolutely mind boggling to have been made for this platform.
Yeah, I know of a few Metroidvania games but I suck at them... Well, maybe it'll be fun to have a video of me failing over and over in Celeste. !LOLZ
I suck at them too but I still enjoy them and try to cover those games for fans that might not know about them yet.
I have made a small career and fortune on YouTube by sucking at Fortnite so it is possible. 😂😂😂
