(Game Review) "For Honor"

in Hive Gaming3 years ago

This is a review of a game "For Honor". The game is available for PS4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. For Honor is an action game developed by Ubisoft. You play as a hero who all have their own weapons skills and varied fighting styles. The game features a solo campaign with Knights, Vikings, and samurai but the game is designed to be played online versus other players for the fullest level of enjoyment.

What is the game like to play

You have three main factions the Knights, Vikings, and Samurai. Once you choose your allegiance you can take on the in-depth and comprehensive trials which act as a very well-made tutorial. The combat is all about your stance and the stance of your foe. If you match their stance as they attack you'll block them then if you attack them with a stance that differs from theirs.

You'll be successfully damaging them in the blow but not all the combat is that complex the vast majority of the enemy ranks are cannon fodder and they can be killed with the good old hack and slash baton bashing method. This is where the stamina comes in if you go to expend your energy too soon you'll be vulnerable to attack and it's all about balancing your stamina stance and using strategy to defeat the enemies but if you try to butter bash against the captains you won't last long at all. Saying that though some of the AI is a bit weird and some enemies do glitch out and just standstill.

You can acquire experience by completing levels on various difficulties and use scavenged items found on the battlefield. Your character can be customized and the options are comprehensive. There's a wide variety of color variations, armor pieces, weapon parts just to make your warrior feel unique. The game features a battle pass that gives players the chance to unlock unique items and the online options are comprehensive with many modes like dominion, brawls, and excellent jewels.

The beauty of For Honor lays in its subtly advanced scrimmage encounters. At the essential level, every category blocks and attacks in 3 directions by aiming the proper analog stick. lightweight attacks area unit quicker than significant attacks however do perceptibly less injury. there's conjointly a guard break that may stun opponents and leave them susceptible to a throw and numerous combos specific to every category. Managing stamina conjointly plays an associate integral half in every clash as running out removes the flexibility to roll and reduces attack speed significantly. It’s after you begin to completely perceive every class’s strengths and weaknesses that the depth of For Honor starts to actually shine.

In terms of graphics, the game is very detailed and the combatants look great. However, the visuals aren't without their issues I encountered quite a few glitches, times I got stuck in the environment or the camera just went crazy. The music and the sound effects they're very well suited but the voice acting really does a good job of adding some character to the people in the story and especially during the cut scenes.

What's Good and What's Bad

What's good: The melee combat is tactical wealth without intense. The levels are varied enough to keep you coming back. The online modes add long-term value to the experience and it's got great customization options.
What's bad: The game has some technical issues once you've done all the levels repeating them on other difficulties does get tedious and it's a bit of a grind to level up at first.

What is the verdict

For Honor is a well thought out tactical and in-depth melee combat game. The dueling system results in some tense and exciting moments and against the harder captains you're in for a real challenge. It's a good balance between hack and slash and tactics which makes the overall experience very enjoyable. whether you're playing it solo or online with other players. It's a game combat fans will enjoy and the game has a loyal fan base and the devs are continually adding content years after release.
