Better Homes and Gardens: eXode Edition

Little Pink Houses

Despite fleeing for your life from an alien invasion that came out of nowhere with a bunch of people you barely know and without any idea of where you’re going, you can still be living in the lap of luxury (relatively speaking of course) on your new home planet. So follow me as I lead you on a tour of the Better Homes and Gardens of eXode.

Habitats for Humanity

There are 7 different domiciles available in the Alpha Collection of eXode, 3 of which are supplied through the Tom Settlers contract and 4 supplied by the booster packs. You may find any of these cards on the player market or trade for them on the eXode discord server with other players as well.

In the Toms contract we find the quaint Smooty All-in-1. While little Smooty can only hold 2 people fully upgraded, it does have fairly good atmospheric protection and best of all, it functions as it’s own drop ship. If you want to send an initial exploration party down with limited supplies or send a couple down with a dropship to use the dropship’s cargo space for other things then the Smooty has got everything you need.

Next in our Tom Settlers lineup is the Tom’s Custom. Here we make a trade off of half the atmospheric shielding for double the occupancy. While the Custom can’t function as a dropship, it can function as space for something other than living quarters, perhaps a computer room or laboratory would suit your needs better?

Last but certainly not least in our Toms lineup is the old favorite, the Happy Five. This is the creme de la creme in the world of space colonization prefabricated housing. Sleeping from 5 to 10 people depending on your upgrades, it is the largest domicile available and has a higher atmospheric shield rating than anything but the Octohome (available only in boosters) which sleeps between 4 and 8 colonists depending on upgrades and also takes up significantly more space in the cargo hold.

If you were forced to leave your home planet without time to pack your preferred prefab or appropriate compensation, you may have to settle for one of our budget models; the Tom’s Starter or the Life Block. The starter also takes up significant space in the hold and can sleep a maximum of two humans fully upgraded. It also takes a small amount of energy to maintain which none of the other afore mentioned domiciles do. While it’ll do in a pinch, you’ve definitely got to watch those limited resources... In contrast, the lifeblock has double the occupancy while taking a third of the cargo space and its energy requirement can be brought from -2 to 0 with upgrades, but it does have a happiness cost. They are seemingly not the most pleasant place to spend your nights while scouting uncharted territory and eating reconstituted food.

The last option we have when looking for a place to lay your head is a bit different. The Defensive Bunker model only sleeps 2 humans and has a -3 energy cost, but what it lacks in comfort it makes up for in style. And guns, lots of guns. It also comes with a very nice radar array and did I mention guns?

Now some of you may decide that you like your new planet enough to stay for more than a month or 2 (or at least that it is preferable to being enslaved by foul smelling aliens). In that case we’ve got some goodies in store for you.

Did someone say Biodomes? (No not the classic film starring Pauly Shore) Our lovely line of Biodomes is just the thing to kick those space food blues, assuming you can find something to grow in them of course. Careful, these domes are not droppable so if you don’t leave the station with them, you will have to grow those maters’ the old fashioned way. And by the way if you’re into growing something a little more exotic, try our Preservation Domes.

If you really want to make this more than just a “getaway”, why not add a little more space to your bungalow with our Storage Building or the Multipurpose Prefab? You’ll thank me I promise ;)

And if you thought you couldn’t have fun during an alien apocalypse, you couldn’t be more wrong! Just check out the Dreamsphere, perfect for 1-4 humans to fulfill all of your unearthly desires.

Finally and perhaps most importantly depending on who (or what) your new neighbors are, we have our Protection Walls and Underground Construction. For protection from things on the ground these walls are perfect, but they do leave you a bit exposed to air attack, as well as decreasing your stealth unless upgraded. If that worries you then the underground construction may be a better fit for you. It offers great protection and stealth, but it does come at a cost. After all no one wants to spend all their time in a cave right?

Here’s a handy comparison chart to take with you:1AE65733CCA445A38B985C32289653C8.jpeg

(Numbers in red can all be reached in a fully upgraded card while numbers in green imply that the upgrades are limited and one stat can only be maxed out if no other stats are upgraded.)

Alright fellow eXoders, eXodians and eXodesiacs, thats all for today.

If you want to play and haven’t bought a starter pack yet (10$), use my ref link and we’ll both get 2 free boosters (3$ per pack) and also we will end up evacuating to planets that are relatively close by so hopefully we can find each other and share resources, join a squadron, hang out with some happy soda etc...

Also, my main account is @autobodhi where I share my music and music videos and I’m in the process of writing and recording a Tesla Punk Space Opera based on eXode! It’s kind of awesome and I’m going to start sharing that in pieces pretty soon so make sure you check it out.

Peace.

Ah thank you very much captain, that is actually my first ever HIVE tip! I'm actually getting really into making these posts, never thought I would be blogging about gaming but I've been really losing myself in the eXode universe lately so I've got to share it.

Good info, as always!

Gracias amigo, my pleasure.

I didn't even know the dream sphere existed!

Great write up!

Yeah thats a pretty sweet looking cards too. And leads you to wonder about the “many tastes” of solo pleasure :)

This was a very fun (and useful) article to read!

wow awesome! i love charts!

Haha. I agree. I need to see things to Really grok them usually...

Great guide! Can't wait for your Tesla Punk Space Opera as well 😄

Thank you captain, definitely took some inspiration from your posts. I've got the first song pretty much finished recording (demo quality), I think I'll release it and the beginning of the story with the launch of version E. The whole thing will sort of develop with the game so I can take inspiration from there you know?

Nice post! One correction -- all the cards will be available through the player market as soon as people want to sell them. Indeed, there are two Octohomes and three TOM Starters currently available.

Good call, just clarified that.

Nice overview for the coming challenges! 😉

Thanks :) I'm pretty excited about these challenges too.
