Anime Game Mini Review / One Piece - Grand Battle!

in Hive Gaming4 years ago

While I was thinking about which videogame based on an anime I could make a post of, and at the same time avoiding the spoilers of chapter 993 of the One Piece manga, I remembered a PlayStation 1 videogame that I had completely forgotten about, it was so buried in my mind that by pure chance I remembered that videogame. That video game is One Piece: Grand Battle! a fighting game based on the characters of the most famous pirate anime/manga in history. I had completely forgotten about this video game, in its time I didn't pay much attention because I didn't know One Piece and I played it relatively little, so I downloaded a PS1 emulator, which took me half an hour to configure it to work properly and I played One Piece: Grand Battle! again, after many years!

One Piece is currently my favorite manga, so rediscovering this video game was a breath of fresh air. One Piece: Grand Battle! is a fighting game, but above all it is based on games like Super Smash, it has a very similar type of gameplay, with scenarios where there will be platforms where we can jump, being able to dodge enemy attacks or position ourselves in certain places where we can make use of the character's abilities at our choice, in addition we can use items that will appear on the stage, exactly like the Super Smash games.

This game has only 16 characters, since it is based up to a certain part of the manga/anime, so the game only has the most important characters of those chapters. I didn't remember that it had so few characters, this is something that left me a little disappointed, since there aren't the characters of Robin, Chooper,Franky or even Brook, I'm not sure if after this video game they made a sequel, later I'll investigate it. But each character logically has its own distinctive fighting style, its could skills and even a special attack, I like that the characters have very chibi style designs and not a design like a to the manga or the anime, because due to the limitations that the PlayStation 1 had, the designs would not have looked good.

Despite the disappointment it was to discover that One Piece: Grand Battle! has few characters to choose from, I think that due to nostalgia I was quite entertained to play it again, it's one of those games that you can spend hours playing and you don't even realize that enough time has passed or it can also bore you after a few minutes, I think that because of my mood and my taste for One Piece it made me quite entertained to play it, since I didn't remember much about this video game.
