Remastered Games You Should Try Out: Command and Conquer and Forsaken

in Hive Gaming4 years ago

This year hasn't been going well. Worse, it's not even half way over yet. Part of me feel that I need a break from all the craziness across the country. You'd think most of it is common sense, but I guess it's not so common these days.

Instead of worrying about what is to come in life this weekend, I will choose to recoup my sanity. I will start by doing things I know I would enjoy. To make it easier, all the following games are available on Valve's Steam.

You aren't imagining it. The Command and Conquer™ Remastered Collection is out today. The franchise defined the RTS genre. I'm going to try to speed run through the missions through a massive nostalgia trip.

As the description suggests, it goes beyond remastered game play. I will be looking forward to hear how Frank Klepacki remastered the soundtracks. Map editors in the past have had a rather steep learning curve. I hope the new one is much easier to use.

Since I'm going for blasts from the past, I decided to look up if there are any other remastered games I should check out. There are actually a good number of them, but I'm not about to spend more money on dozens of things this time.

Did any of you play Forsaken? It was a FPS on a hover bike. I played the N64 version as a kid. It was a fun multiplayer experience with my siblings. I'm definitely looking forward to checking this out as well. I do believe this mirrors the Playstation version of the original game.

I still remember how I got bamboozled by the N64 version. The extra "bikes", or characters, were only available for the Playstation version. I recall how my siblings and I could not figure why we couldn't unlock some characters on N64. Turned out, you can't have them.

Remaster might be a misnomer for this game as there aren't many changes to this version. The most important thing is that the game is now compatible with newer systems. In some way, calling a special edition might be more appropriate.

It's not like I don't care about what is happening in the world. I am too burned out dealing with work (understaffed). I am too burned out looking at the horrors of the recent protests. I need a break from looking at the ugliness of my country.

To my fellow Americans, stay safe and we will fight another day.

Is command and conquer out?

Yeah. The remastered collection came out today.

That Saints Row the Third Remaster came out recently - never played the original as those types of games just don't interest me.

There are many fan remakes in the works. GoldenEye 007, Resident Evil (using the Resident Evil 4 engine), Star Wars Episode 1 – Racer, Dino Crisis, Altered Beast and many more.

I might need to check out the Goldeneye one. That’s another classic.

I didn't get into it on Nintendo 64 (I didn't have any friends nearby where I lived) so I missed the multiplayer angle. I also could not really get into the FPS on a controller situation. Playing them on a computer is, to me, so much more fun.

I did do a lot of Halo local multiplayer as I had friends around at that time - I sucked because I had not honed my skills with FPS on consoles. Lol. Double edged sword.

Yeah, the old school multiplayer was where a lot of the appeals were.

I only figured that out around 2000 or so myself. I had played the PlayStation port A LOT and liked it. Playing on a computer, with a mouse, was a totally different experience for me. I was hooked from then on.

As long as you are enjoying yourself. That's what matters at the end of the day.

Exactly. That is what is wrong with gaming, almost from the first time we had more than one game to play. People forget to just enjoy themselves and have fun, no matter the platform or game.

Good ol' C&C! Great memories :)

It used to be my go-to LAN game.

And it always took ages to set up the LAN. Good times

No kidding.

My siblings and I had our computers in perma LAN set up back in the days.

No way! I love the Command and Conquer games! I have Red Alert, Red Alert II and Tiberian Sun sitting next to my dekstop right now. I haven't played them in forever, but they were fantastic games. That was back when cut scenes were a newer idea and they actually made sense in the game!

I think most people did it for the nostalgia and the ability to play on newer machines.
