No Man’s Sky | Starting The Omega Expedition

It has been many years since I've revisited No Man’s Sky. In that time, I have missed a decent chunk of things. Recently I noticed they were rerunning all the expeditions from 2024 and I decided to jump back in.

You could almost say I'm known for taking long breaks from this game. My old save files were from 2021 and then I had a few different ones from 2019. While I could have attempted to start one of them to see if any of them worked. I decided to make a fresh save. From my understanding, however, it is possible to take an active character and move them into expeditions. Something I'll be testing out during the next one.

This was one of those games where it needed more time for things to become polished and as in-depth as they should have been. Returning after such a long break was going to provide its challenges as I'd forgotten most of everything.

phase 1.jpg

On top of that, I needed to complete certain milestone challenges along the way. There are five phases during this expedition. While you can finish milestones in other phases ahead of time. Some of the rewards end up helping in some way to advance further in the expedition without having to grind for things the normal way.

The first expedition I'd be doing is called Omega. This would end up running from November 27th to December 11th. I’m not certain yet if I'll be attempting all five expeditions that will end up re-running. At the very least I'll be trying to check out one more at some point.

My goal was not to try and speed run through all the milestones. While they are my main focus. I’m also trying to get back into the game. So sometimes I'll just be off wandering around working on whatever random thing that popped up instead of going after the next milestone needed to progress further along.

After landing on the starting planet for this expedition. Everyone starts on the same planet. There is also a set of planets everyone is attempting to make it to for each phase called the rendezvous world. I needed to head towards my crashed ship.

Along the way, I knew one thing. Gather everything and anything I could get my hands on. Along with scanning everything for units (the game's currency). As many of the creatures I'd end up scanning further down the line could net me a couple thousand to hundreds of thousands of credits. This would come quite in handy if ever I needed to buy some material I did not have.

Thankfully the starting planet was quite an easy one. To say it took me a while to make it to my crashed ship is an understatement. Once I got there it took some time to recall what even I needed to get it fixed up and ready to go.

There were many damaged systems. Some of these systems I'd end up fixing early on. Others It would be a while before I found the required materials to fix them up. Some things would also get damaged again during pirate attacks while I was exploring the galaxy.

While I had a few resources needed to make some of the repairs. Since I now had a ship I could store things in. I spent some time gathering everything around the local area. I wanted a nearly full ship of resources before taking off if I could.

I was also just having quite a lot of fun exploring around. Along with finding further things to scan for the reports. There however did come a point where it was just time to go exploring the solar system and other planets.

heading towards a new planet.jpg

I ended up just spinning around in space and going towards the next planet I noticed. I should have kind of known this planet was going to be a bit more of a challenge. It would however have some resources I'd come back here time again and again to gather along the way. For such things as the solanium (wheat) and the copper.

One thing I noticed about the milestones for the expedition is you did not always get the pop-up reward notification of finishing one off right away. Sometimes it would and other times while doing odd things like just landing on another planet you would get a a couple like I did.

escape velocity.jpg

I ended up finishing off escape velocity and exploring. One required just leaving the first planet. The other was scanning six plants. I ended up getting some base blueprints and some modules for my multi-tool.

A big thing I noticed is quite a few of the milestones for the expedition had you do were things you should be doing anyway. It was not any shock that it wanted me to build a base early on. It also wanted me to spend some resources building it up a little with things not all of them I cared for. Naturally, my base was a mess and I would not be attempting to fix it anytime soon.

Naturally, I ended up building my base on a planet that had some insane tornados on it. If caught up in a bad storm that usually takes place at night. Sometimes I'd just get sucked up in the winds and trapped being swung around mid-air till around the storm was over. Sometimes resulting in me getting killed.

It did not help matters any when I was trying to build my base at night and one such storm ended up hitting me. I was kind of just trying to place down the required blocks needed for the milestone.

I’d go on to update the base over time. For the short term, I added on some solar panels. There were two big things I wanted to have right away. More storage and a base teleporter so I could get back here. For the milestone, I also had to add things like healing devices.

While the base was quite ugly. It would more than fit my needs for the time being. I was mostly after the milestone reward of getting the hyperdrive so I could leave this solar system.

Final Thoughts

the space station.jpg

I then went up to the space station for the system before heading off to another system. Sometimes I'd be quite good at scanning each system I was in and hitting up each station. That way if I needed to find resources at a later date in time, I could just look at planet data and then teleport to a station in that system.

There would also be times were I got a bit lazy. That would end up coming back to bite me later on. I would have certain milestones in the later phases where I needed to find certain resources but I did not seem to have found a planet for it. I do not doubt my attempt to make it to each of the rendezvous worlds that the planets I'd need were along the way.

While did spend some time looking at all the milestones in each phase. I should have written down the ones that seemed like you could finish them off along the way. As I would end up doing some backtracking and even going to random systems off the path, I was to take looking for resources and other requirements I needed to finish off milestones.

At the very least I now became familiar again with many of the different systems of the game. I also had a couple of milestones finished.

The long-term goals of finishing all the expedition phases were to get a rather cool-looking spaceship and a Muli-tool. Along the way, I'd get I'd be getting quite a few things like posters to hang up in my base among some other cosmetic rewards as well.

this game every time I try to play it a new update pops up xD

Hehe. It might have taken them a few years to give ups the game they said they made in the first place.

Long I saw you playing this game, another great game play from you. Are you done with old school rump now

Nope. I still a few weeks of content for it.

Ok looking forward to that
