Another winter, another Steam sale!
This time we're not getting free trading cards, but I'm totally fine with that because the deals are pretty good. I was able to buy a few games that I really wanted on my Steam library, unfortunately one of them isn't working, but it's fine.
Also props to whoever did the Steam sale waifu for this year's sales, she's really damn cute. From what I've seen this artist won't be working for Valve starting next year/sale. It's a shame!
Only weird thing about this illustration is that they used Windows 11 as a template, when Valve has its own operating system hahaha.
Anyways, here's the games I bought!
- Tekken 8
I was playing this one through uhh... "non-official means" but I finally got it legally and now I can play online, and I must say, it was totally worth it.
This game is an evolution over Tekken 7 in every way imaginable. The gameplay feels more fluid, the mechanics are improved (with some new ones added in) and the graphics are top notch even at medium (I can do high, but I'd rather avoid any potential frame drops).
I got the standard edition of the game, not any bundle, but I'm still satisfied with the final package and I'll probably be buying Lidia because she was my favourite character in Tekken 7, with Lili in second and Asuka third.
- Code Vein
This animeish soulslike is absolutely awesome. I already owned it on Xbox but since I don't plan on going back to consoles any time soon I bought it again on Steam because it was so cheap.
After playing for a couple of hours I realized just how rusty I've become hahaha.
I'm training my parries, finding optimal combinations of skills, weapons and blood veils. It's really fun and totally worth it for the low price they're doing it for.
- Deep Rock Galactic
ROCK AND STONE!
This was quite a welcome surprise for me.
I saw my friend playing it on Discord and it looked fun, so I decided to buy it to play with him - turns out I've been playing it way more than I thought I would.
Sure, it's fun to gather friends on Discord and play it, but playing solo or with strangers is also a blast.
The game is basically Infiniminer or Minecraft on steroids. You go in a cave in a hostile planet and do the objectives your boss in Deep Rock Galactic company tells you to do.
Some critters will be on your way trying to stop your work, either by killing you, damaging infrastructure, or both.
All game modes I've played so far are fun in their own way, with egg hunting be the least enjoyable but still cool.
I highly recommend this one. It's got everything going for it: A fun gameplay loop, a great community, an awesome art style and more.
- Scribblenauts - Unmasked
I absolutely adored the original Scribblenauts game, so finding this for cents on the dollar was a surprise.
The game is just what I expected. More Scribblenauts with more stuff to do.
It's cutesy art style and fun gameplay are what keep me hooked, Scribblenauts is really quite great.
- Yakuza: Like a Dragon
What's a gtPacheko post without Yakuza!? Hahahah.
I've already played through this game twice, once on Xbox Gamepass and then on PS Plus, but I never actually owned it, so now I do.
I'll beat it again on Steam and then start modding the hell out of it to see what crazy things the community have come up with.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon (or rather, Like a Dragon 7) is now one of my favourites in the franchise and back when I played it I made an entire post about it.
It's great to be back in Ijincho!
- Star Wars Battlefront 2 (The new one)
I already owned this game through Epic, but that version doesn't work on Linux. It seems Heroic Games Launcher - EA Play integration isn't quite there yet, so screw it, I bought the celebration edition.
Battlefront 2 is really REALLY good. It's basically Battlefield but with Star Wars characters and powers, but there's more to it than that. The gameplay feels very different from bog standard Battlefield and feels a lot more comfy to play, it's hard to put it into words exactly, but this is a great game. It feels really satisfying to get kills in it, the vehicles are all awesome and the special characters are really fun to play with.
- Titanfall 2 (The one that didn't run)
I don't know what's going on here, but every time I try to play it it goes to the Respawn logo/loading screen and then I get a black screen.
I tried the Steam version and the EA Play version (since I have a subscription to it due to PC Gamepass which I'm not gonna be paying anymore starting next month because I moved back to Linux).
This seems to be an issue with the game on Linux. I found a few other players with the exact same issue, no one was able to fix it so I just gave up.
It's fine though, I've already beaten this on the PS5 and was buying it solely for the multiplayer (cuz mouse and keyboard rulz)
- Conclusion
This is a really great sale and if I weren't saving up for an SSD I'd definitely would have gotten more games, with Elden Ring being one I'm eyeing (I accept gifts hehehehe).
Steam sales don't feel quite as magical as when I was a teen anymore. Now I make my own money, there are no gifts, it's just me and whatever I manage to scrounge up.
But it's fine, I got some great games and will be enjoying them for quite a while.
And what about you? Did you get anything?
Do any of you own Deep Rock Galactic? We could play together! I need two more people to fill up a squad.
Thanks for reading, y'all!
You bought some good games.
I understand the feeling, I spent hours looking at games, looking at my wish list and considering what to buy, but I allowed myself to spend $30 and only bought things that I was going to play lol.
Nice set of games, I am going to buy a few in this sale too. Just shortlisting them right now. Gaming on Linux seems to be tough with all the incompatible issues and poor optimisation, I guess.
I'd say it's fine. 99% of my Steam Library works out of the box, it's just some rare edge cases where stuff like this happens.
And optimisation is absolutely phenomenal, I get better performance on Linux than on Windows in many games.
That's so nice to hear. I always thought Linux is a pain for gamers. Good to see that's not the case.
Haha, it used to be a pain. I've been using it since 2016 and before it was really hard to get Windows games working, now you just install them and 9/10 times they'll just work - if they don't it's usually a small little fix you have to do and everything is documented online.
I also figured out what the issue with Titanfall 2 was, so now I'm playing it :D
