Howdy, fellow Splinterlands players. How's your new year going so far? Did you have a nice Christmas? I'm in Laos, a Buddhist country, so I only celebrated Christmas with my students before the break, but my New Year's was a lot of fun. This week's Splinterlands community challenge is to help new players understand why leveling up your cards is essential to winning more battles and getting the most out of your cards.

Summoners

summoners.png

Summoners can only summon cards as powerful as themselves so if you have a MAX-level card, but only a level 3 summoner, then your card will only be able to be at that level so it's best to have at least one MAX-level summoner for every splinter. Chaos summoners are both good and cheap so that's what I have at MAX level, but I like to play in brawls so I have a Gold Foil Summoner for every splinter and every Beta summoner in case I enter a fray that only allows older cards. They don't need to be at MAX-level because brawls still have limits for Bronze-level frays.

Lux Vega.png

You can get the lovely Lux Vega which is the only neutral summoner that can summon every splinter, but she is a bit mana-expensive and will rotate out of the Modern League soon. She's a bit pricey too. She's on the market now for almost two hundred dollars, but I remember when she was new she was a grand so she must also be losing her battle edge. It's way cheaper to get one splinter of every Chaos Legion card too. If you are on a budget and can only afford to get one of your summoners to MAX, I'd go with one of the dragons because they can summon any splinter too, but dragon sometimes isn't an option.

Soulbound

rewards.png

Soulbound cards were a big controversy when they first came out because they make it harder to sell your rewards, but they helped put an end to bot extractors which were sucking the value out of the game instead of real players who want to play and collect cards. I found myself rushing and scrambling to get all of my common Soulbound reward cards to MAX-level during the last batch so I've put all of my attention and card draws to getting as many commons as fast as I can. I've got every card up to level 9 so I'm on the final grind to get them all MAXed to level 10 where some of the best abilities appear. Sometimes common cards can be more clutch and powerful than legendary cards, they just need to be at MAX level.

Market

The fastest and easiest way to acquire MAX-level cards is to head to the market. Make sure you put the cheapest ones first and MAX LEVEL as the parameters on top. Right now there are a few cards for around $2. It takes 400 cards to get these cards to MAX-level so these are selling for about half a cent per BCX. The only reason we can do this is because Chaos Legion was way overprinted so don't expect to see this option available for much longer. Thank you for reading. You don't need to get every card to MAX-level, but you should try to get one MAX-level tank, ranged, magic, and summoner for every splinter if you want to be competitive.
