Two Point Campus ~ basically Two Point Hospital, but with a fresh coat of paint

in Hive Gaming3 years ago (edited)

Two Point Campus was released yesterday, and thanks to yet another $1 subscription on xbox gamepass I get to play it for cheap! Woo!

I thought that Two Point Hospital was pretty good when I tried it last year. My one dislike with it was that I was forced to complete a certain amount of the campaign before I was allowed to enter sandbox mode. All I wanted to do was make one hospital and make it the best I could, but alas. This time around I'm more open to doing a campaign and I'll happily make a fantastic sandbox campus later.

So let us go onward, to Two Point Campus!

First things first, I went through the settings and made the UI small, popped subtitles on because I'm half-deaf and live on a busy street and there's too many cars and high-school kids shouting and interrupting my hearing.

Because I was curious, I quickly investigated also: you can't unlock sandbox mode until you've completed the 4th part of the campaign. When I first started the game, I was ready to plow through the campaign and get 'er done! But honestly, by the time I got to the 3rd area, I just wanted to make my own damned campus and bugger the campaign.

Despite my best intentions, I'm really not a campaign person.

We start off in a little beginner's campus called Freshleigh Meadows.

They have low expectations, aren't expecting me to succeed, and so it's the perfect place for a beginning principal to start principalling a low-end university.

Also, for some reason Two Point Campus has a photomode AND is compatible with Nvidia Ansel. Not really the game for it, but okay. xD

Following the campaign, I was told to build my first Scientography room, decorate it, and hire a teacher to teach within its fine walls.

It's at this point I realise that Two Point Campus is pretty much exactly Two Point Hospital just with a different splash of paint colouring it.

Everything you do, how you do it, it's all exactly the same as Two Point Hospital. If you've ever played that, you'll dive into this and it'll feel like the exact same game just with different rooms, decor and NPCs.

Here is a brown-skinned white-faced goth performing some sort of satanic scientific ritual.

I don't know. He just amused me. xD Ohnoes, there is white-face in this game! Oh wait, no one cares about that, only the reverse.

At the end of my first year, I got two awards! One for having smart kids, and one for having a very pretty environment. Absolutely smashing. All the kids want to come here.

Now that I had reached the second year and had some Course Points, I could another course to my curriculum. Because this is a science facility, and because the campaign told me to, I added a virtual reality android thing room. Very descriptive, I know.

But now I had first year students as well as second year students, and was on my way to a two-star rating!

I also retained my grounds' attractiveness for a whole 'nother year.

I've noticed that the janitors have the same issue as in Two Point Hospital. Well, it's probably not an issue, per se, but I find it annoying. They prefer to water plants instead of picking up litter. Priorities, people! I mean, I can't help but put plants in every single room. I need my rooms to look nice. As a result, I needed about 10 janitors for this small school of 25 kids and 5 teachers/assistants just to water the plants.

Once I got my first campus to two stars (because I was too lazy to aim for three), I moved on to the next campaign area. An area where I would teach swathes of children how to cook! And look cool while doing so!

Implementing what I learnt from my first campaign area, I got decoratin'. I made a nice cooking room, a student lounge, a teacher's lounge, a library, toilets, showers, a nicely decorated dormitory and an lecturing room. Even though the game only told me to make the cooking room and chuck a teacher into it.

These kids can't cook, yet anyway. Even they're disgusted by their own food. The teacher looks oddly pleased.

Because of their failure, I was then informed by the game that I should make a Private Tutoring room so my terrible burgeoning chefs can have some one-on-one learning.

And then the game told me to make a student's recreational room, which is apparently different to a student's lounge but serves the same purpose.

As a result, I ran out of money. And I guess this is why we just do what the campaign tells us to instead of rushing on ahead and building fancy dormitories and student lounges and unnecessary libraries. (Which wouldn't have been unnecessary in sandbox mode!)

So I got out a loan so I could henceforth buy and build what the campaign told me to. xD

Oh, and I also fired one of my many janitors because I couldn't afford him anymore.

He chucked a big ol' tantrum, stomped on his hat a few times, than barged out the front doors and out into the streets.

I was rather amused by his actions. XD

With my first star achieved, I decided to toddle off to the next area, because I just want sandbox mode already. Eurgh.

I really enjoy these games, I do, but I enjoy them after the campaign is over and done with. For me, personally, it feels like such a slog forcing myself through the campaign to unlock the ability to play the part of the game I actually want to play.

With that being said though, this is a fun, amusing game and they have not deviated from Two Point Hospital at all. The game feels both familiar and new and I'm looking forward to FORCING MYSELF THROUGH THE CAMPAIGN to get to the good bits.

Until next time! :)

I had this preloaded, but didn't find the time to play it. I think I'll go check this out now

It's pretty good. I was a day early for it 😅 xbox had a countdown timer that told me the game unlocked at 2pm on the 9th my time; it actually unlocked at midnight my time, basically the 10th. Got to have a whole day of it while my son was at school. 😅 Didn't unlock sandbox mode though. 🙁 I personally find the campaign so tiring to go through, but I know there are people who prefer the campaign.

This game feels like Sims.

It's a simulation! But that's about all it has in common with the Sims. 🙂

Off topic, have you played The Forest?

I have not, but it is one I want to try.
