Blog #20: Gods Unchained Welcome Set - Spotlight: Light

in Hive Gaming5 years ago

Yesterday, the Welcome Set has been announced which includes 70 new cards. Two examples of each card will be distributed to every player tomorrow! I can't wait to play with these, and for everyone else who wants to make the most out of free cards, I will go into some detail and talk about which cards might in my opinion be the strongest/weakest. There are 7-8 new cards for every god (neutral has more) and today is all about Light!

Spotlight: Light

There are already a number of Light creatures with very powerful effects, for example Harp Cupid, Master of Indulgences or Seraph. They set an enemy creatures strength and/or health to a low value and by doing so almost eliminate any threat which comes from these creatures. What makes them so mighty is the fact that effects from creatures bypass Ward on enemy creatures. This way, they can turn a Hydra into a little rattlesnake quite easily.
The list of these cards is extended by Peacebringer, an 8 Mana 4/7 Aether with Frontline and: "Roar: Set each enemy creature's strength and health to 2."

Peacebringer is one of those cards that can turn a game around by regaining board control and there are multiple ways to benefit from its tribe (Aether). If you manage to play it multiple times in the endgame, I doubt many players will recover from it. Additionally, it might harmonize well with the next card I want to talk about. Crook of Shepherding is another great relic for Light players just like Ritual Rod, Golden Harpe and Cudgel of Atonement. The new crook allows you to get your highest cost mana creature back from your void after attacking twice or playing another relic. Basically, it is a weaker version of Radiant Embalmer. However, this can still be super helpful in the early game,e.g. to get your Highborn Knight back, as well as the late game for cards like Peacebringer or good ol' Echophon.

The Welcome Set - a game changer?

So far, competitive Light decks relied on a lot of Genesis cards. This might change with the new Welcome Set. Especially Aether Light may gain new traction because of it. Fortunately these cards are not on the blockchain, so balancing changes are possible and might be necessary. I am curious to see what Light players might change in their decks.
