Blog #21: Gods Unchained Welcome Set - Spotlight: Nature

in Hive Gaming4 years ago

Today, the Welcome Set will be released for new Gods Unchained players (and soon for existing ones). I will present the top cards of every cards for the next few days, continuing with Nature today! I am really curious to see the new Nature starter deck, because when I started playing GU this was the first deck I used extensively.

Spotlight: Nature

Unfortunately, I have to lower your expectations right away. There is nothing too special about the new Nature cards. Two of them are buffing your creatures a little, one is a confusion spell and the other two are some midgame creatures that deal some damage after they have been played, either against one or multiple enemy creatures. But there are two cards sticking out.
One of them is the 3 Mana spell Aspect of the Axolotl, which simply gives regen +6 to a creature. This is a great addition by itself, because it can further boost the already strong midgame cards of nature. But the best way to play it is in combination with Trial of the Hydra, a 5 mana spell which provides every of your creatures with regen +1 and +X/+X, where X is their amount of regen. With this combination, you can turn basically any creature into a +7/+7 tank with regen +7. And thanks to Pack Stalk and the Mana Bag, you can theoretically play this combo in turn 4 already!

The other exception is Best Friends. It is just a 1 mana card, but you should not underestimate it. Basically, if you already have two creatures, it gives you another two (1/2 and 2/1 confused). Does not sound too good, but it is a great combination with Gloam Druid, Firewine or Singsong Satyr and helps to build the Nature army early on! I feel like these cards might best be used in different kinds of decks though. Aspect of the Axolotl is better suited for Nature Regen, whereas Best Friends should be used with Confused decks.

Will you try the new decks?

I will definitely try the new cards and starter decks once I get the Welcome Set. Even though they might not be the best metawise, I just want to have fun exploring new decks again. It sucks that gas prices are so high right now that buying cards from the market seems dumb, so I will gladly take this chance to test some new cards before Season 1 starts. I would be happy to play unranked matches against anyone who wants to test the new decks as well, so write a comment or a memo if you are interested!
