In less than a week, on September 10th, the sale of the first expansion of Gods Unchained will go live. It is called Trial of the Gods (TotG) and many players are looking forward to it.
Expectations for the new Set
As with all trading card games, the Gods Unchained meta got a little bit rusty in the past few months. Despite all the balancing attempts, there were some clear favorite deck types in the community. The expansion should change that by introducing 150 new cards. Reading through the official discord, it sounded like the Set was already completed months ago (the cards were already playable through ingame-mechanics), but the developers wanted to make credit card purchases possible before the final release. Sad news: They did not succeed yet.
Problems of a blockchain game
In a rather lengthy reddit post, game developer Chris Clay told about the problems of the new expansion. Short version: Ethereum gas prices are just too high right now, the costs for minting and transactions are an economical barrier to release the new set as planned. Instead, minting will be delayed until gas prices are back to normal or until the inhouse solution Immutable X is ready. Cards will be playable, but not in the true ownership of the players until they are minted, which also means that new cards will not be tradable at first.
Conclusion: Less Blockchain, more card game
Blockchain mechanics might not work as expected for now, but Gods Unchained is still a great Card Game. All the hurdles won't lessen the excitement of opening new card packs. And I think there will be some more surprises for the upcoming season!
