But without giving more preambles, I can only say, make yourselves comfortable to start this gaming analysis ;)

"Mike Tyson Boxing" was developed by "Codemasters" and distributed by "Proein", this great game of the Boxing genre would make its appearance in November 2000 for the PlayStation 1 console.
As its title indicates, the game refers to one of the most iconic legends of Boxing, this legend is the incomparable "Mike Tyson". Let's remember that this animal of steel fists was champion of the heavyweight championship, champion in the WBA and champion in the WBC. As it was expected, this great champion will be the star of this great boxing game. Personally, I can say that, among the video games of this genre, this has been one of the most serious in terms of realism that could have been released for the PlayStation 1 :)

The gameplay in "Mike Tyson Boxing" is characterized by the realistic way in which the fights are disputed, in full combat we will have to be aware of the fatigue and also try to hit as many blows to accumulate the necessary points to win the fight, but as I said before the touch of realism of a boxing match is noticeable in this great game, as well as we accumulate points for the blows we give, also open two bars at the top, which will indicate the points and health in combat.

In this good boxing game we will find several levels of difficulty, which I can say, that can become quite high and even somewhat unfair. To overcome these levels of difficulty we will have to make a good practice of the controls to be able to face all those savages against whom we will be fighting, well although at this point I can say that I have no problems, since I have time playing and I can have pretty decent fights against all these boxers who like to fight more than eat xD.

"Mike Tyson Boxing" has several game modes, among these we will have the "Head to Head" mode better known as VS, we will have the "Tournament" mode in which we can enjoy boxing with several stars who were contemporaries with "Mike Tyson" at that time, we will also have the "World" mode which for me is the best and is where all the pasta of this great game and finally we have the "Practice" mode, which is where we have the freedom to test the controls and go perfecting our movements.
As I said at the beginning, the fights and / or combats will have that touch of realism, we can configure the rounds from 1 to 12 and we can configure the time from 1 to 3 minutes. Although we will also have an option that is unlimited time, ie, it will be only one round until one of the boxers fall by K.O!

mike 2.png

Continuing to emphasize the modes, we have that in VS mode we will be able to fight in exhibition bouts with up to 8 boxers who will be selectable according to their weight.
In Tournament mode we will have the opportunity to box with the best boxers in the world at that time, here no matter the weight and each fight will have 4 rounds.

Now it is the turn of the big money of this great game, the "World" mode. This mode is much more complete than the others, in this we will have at our disposal the advice of "Mike Tyson" which will be our personal trainer, in this mode we will select any of the boxers that we will have by default, we will have the option to edit the name and put ours.

mike 5.png

We will start as a young promise that begins his journey in the world of boxing, we will fight against a large number of boxers and as we go forward we will have our coach "Mike Tyson" giving us very important advice regarding many aspects that we must take into account in this mode, we will have to be aware of food, training, physical preparation, generally we will have to be aware of all the progress of our boxer and watch very carefully not to overdo it in any of the aspects mentioned above, it will not be an easy task, but for our luck we will have a great coach like Mike who will advise us when something seems to him that is not right, it is in this way that we can go adjusting everything to a good level of training and to form a great boxer, although I must also say that much will depend on the skills above the ring.

In total the game has 116 boxers and 16 octagons recognized worldwide, this is where so much difficulty lies, a game totally full in this genre of boxing and more in the "World" mode where you have to implement some other strategies to reach the top of the world boxing.

Now referring to the graphic and sound section, I can say the following:
Of the graphic section I can say that it is not so strong, although the boxers can be differentiated by musculature, attire and skin color, I say it this way since the visual aspect of the face of the boxers can not be detailed well, but this is only in the main characters (Obviously the boxers), on the other hand the aspect of the menu if it is quite acceptable, this very well elaborated and defined, easy to handle and locate in the mode you want. On the other hand the octagons I can say that they are well worked in terms of their recreation and the lights that are shown in them, no doubt that essential touch that can be perceived in a boxing environment.

mike 6.png

The sound section is quite good, in the main menu we will hear an electrifying music that adds very well to the combat environment of a boxing match, on the ring we can hear the presenter of the evening, which will name the boxers on duty, at this point everything goes pretty well imparting that touch of emotion that characterizes a boxing match. Another important aspect of this section are the blows and the sounds that the boxers make, mentioning in an important way also the voices and whistles of the public, undoubtedly a very successful aspect for this sound section.

In the gameplay that I will show you below, you can appreciate all this section of which I have just spoken, I hope you enjoy it ;)

Gameplay (World)

"My Channel"

And to finish I will give my final verdict.
"Mike Tyson Boxing" personally I consider it a great title of the boxing genre, well it lacks notably in the graphics aspect, but this does not take away the intention and the basis of a good game of this type of genre, a game that wanted to note that realism of a real boxing match, the best of this great game is that fat pasta mode "World", a section within the game that will give us many hours of fun and suffering... "Mike Tyson Boxing" is a game that deserves the opportunity to be played and as far as I'm concerned, it will be a game that will always live in my "Trunk of memories".

I enjoyed reading your game review on Mike Tyson Boxing . I had a laugh at the pasta comment, not sure if that has something to do with boxing or where your from . But we eat a lot of pasta.
There have been a lot of good games with a lot of thought put into them about making the game mechanics realistic but due to low graphics or even poor timing on the release they did not get the full appreciation that they deserve .
I was secretly hoping to see a comment about mike biting off an ear lol. Not his finest moment but I totally agree he was a great boxer.
Thanks for posting and using the battle tag on your post .
Have a great day!

Glad you liked my content, good to see you around. Hehehe! With the pasta comment I mean that the "World" mode is the best that the game has to give us, so it is its best section, the best is there xD

Right now I can understand you, it's true that in terms of graphics the games of that time lacked a lot of attitude in this aspect, but on the other hand the gameplay of some of them were so good that they made this section go unnoticed.

That ear bite is very iconic in the boxing world, we still have time for some funny commentary on that to appear. And well done! Thank you to you for taking the time to visit and read me, I hope you enjoyed it.... Greetings!!!

Thank you!

I grew up playing Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, I haven't played this one yet, maybe I will later. The graphics it has on ps1 are not bad at all. What I loved about Punch-Out was its difficulty, I hope this one matches it.

Hi @perceval, always a pleasure to have you around.... To be honest even though "Mike Tyson's Punch-Out" was a very well known title on the NES, I never got to play it, I find it strange that in all my life with retro games, I never knew about this title.

As for "Mike Tyson Boxing", I can recommend it with my eyes closed, when you decide to play it, I advise you to practice a little to familiarize yourself with the controls, and then you go to the world mode, I assure you that you will have a good time, it's fun when you insult each other in the newspapers of the week, I hope you try it bro!
Thanks for your time, greetings!
