Getting Started in Train of the Century

in Hive Gaminglast year (edited)

Hello Crypto Gamers out there, today I started to play a new play to earn game called Train of the Century.

After I registered, I then created my first train.

I then zoomed out on the map and could see a flashing blue dot that shows where I am. I could then zoom in on my train and found it at the train station.

Buying My First Train

Before I can put my first train together, I need to buy the different parts of the train needed. These consist of:

  • Locomotive
  • Conductor
  • Passenger Car
  • Goods Car

source

To do that, I went to Atomic Hub which is a marketplace for NFTs on Wax, and logged in. I then searched by Centurytrain and filtered by locomotive first. Here I could see many different choices of trains to buy.

source

I then sorted by lowest to highest price to review the offers. Then I could hover over a train and see some of its stats. Here you can see the cheapest one is a common card and important details like how far it can travel, speed and fuel.

These cheap trains won't be able to travel far, but they could be ok for starting out and learning the game. I bought the cheapest one to start with and then repeated the process for the Conductor, Passenger Car and Railcar.

Assembling My First Train

I then needed to put my first train together, so I went back to the map, clicked on the station, and then Edit Train. I could then create my desired train.

My train can only carry one car, so I opted initially for my passenger train but there were no passengers at the station. In the end, I added my goods car to my train and attempted to add some goods to transport.

Here too there were no goods to transport, which is when I realised that I would need to buy some goods NFTs from the marketplace. Therefore I went back and bought a few different goods NFTs and tried to load my train again.

Finally, I bought a commodity that would fit with my rail car and could load it. I noticed that the nutrition bars weigh only 10 each, so I could in fact carry 5 of them. So I returned to the market and bought up another 4 nutrition bar NFTs. I hope the other station will buy them!

With my fully loaded rail car, I am ready to hit the rails.. this has taken longer than I had expected just to send a train from one station to the next.

Going To Another Station

Having played Railroad Tycoon many years ago, I am vaguely familiar with how railroad strategy games should work. It was much more building your stations and laying your tracks back then. Now with crypto involved, their is the real life economics aspects to consider and using NFTs.

Now it was time to send my train out into the wilderness and visit another station.

As I have just a cheap locomotive, it cannot travel for a long distance, therefore you can see above that I can only travel to the two marked stations. I opt for Seabreeze Park, but first I need to buy some fuel. To buy fuel I need the ingame token Tocium. To get Tocium I need to visit yet another exchange and buy some.

source

I visit Alcor and buy 100 Tocium which is around 0,2 Wax.

Returning to the game, I visit the ingame market and buy 50 diesel for my diesel train. This costs me 10 Tocium.

I then try to dispatch my train to the new station but get the warning that I don't have enough fuel. I decide to buy 100 more diesel and that should be good for me to get there and back.

It will take 1h 48mins to get to the station and it offers me the chance to play a mini-game. I decided to play the first one, Rail Yard Defender and it was quite good although I only got 11 points. I didn't get any crypto for playing the mini-game so perhaps I will stick to Rollercoin if I want some mini-game playing action.

My train is now safely traveling to Sea Breeze Park and I have decided to call it a day for today. I will check back tomorrow on my train and report back to you in my next update about how much Torcium I have earned for my first run!

Thanks for reading.

Thanks. I started the game but when I needed to buy coal and had trouble exchanging things. So I kind of forgot about it. Now I’m encouraged to get back into it. !PIZZA !ALIVE

I think it could be an interesting game, but I will need to buy a more expensive train so that I don't need to check in on it every hour! Good luck getting back started. !PIZZA !ALIVE

Keep on posting, my friend. !PIZZA

hehe this read like a comedy script going back and forth!
Sounds fun though, but too much fiddling around for me.
So you still do the rollercoin, I meant to have a look, do you have a referral link?

Thanks Ed, yeah it was a bit like the Chuckle Brothers. I think it will be more fluid once I am more experienced with it.

Im still on Rollercoin trying to catch up the OGs!

Here is my referral link if you give it a try:

Let me know if you need any help with it. !PIZZA

Okay will do, just singed up the now!

That sound like a very good game. I will wait for your report tomorrow.

It looks like a lot of effort for not very much game play to me!

Mostly it is economics and trading so far, I will see if anything changes! !CTP

This does remind me of rollercoaster tycoon with trains. I was not very good at these types of games and still struggle a bit. maybe its a good time to revisit them and understand what i was doing wrong. hehehe~ there is always room for improvement. :)

Yes, I played Theme Park too, and always made the chips too salty so they would buy drinks too. I will keep you updated with my progress. !CTP

Looks interesting. But, I'll play only Hive blockchain based games. Anyway, I'll follow your reports from this game 😎

It does take some getting used to playing outside of Hive. Thanks for checking my report. !ALIVE

That looks like a fun game. I played Rail Tycoon in the past and enjoyed it a lot. It makes me think of it. Thanks for presenting it :-)

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project and it will be highlighted in the next post! Comment Footer.jpg

Thanks for picking my post today. So far it is good fun and reminds me of Railroad Tycoon a lot. !ALIVE

Looks like a very nice game just a little complicated. But you explained very well !ALIVE

Thanks. It was tricky to get started initially. !CTP

It's indeed a little complicated at first but there is a great starting guide on the wiki for this game which helped me a lot when I got started.

https://wiki.trains.cards/game-mechanics/getting-started

In particular the "gears" on the cards are very important since the number of gears on the locomotive must match the gears of the conductor. Something I didn't realise in the beginning so I started off with two trains lol.

Yay! 🤗

Very nice tutorial @mypathtofire and thanks for the shout out! choo-choo! 😊!PIZZA

Thanks CG! I hope you are well. !CTP !PIZZA

Looks like it could be fun. tbh probably too involved i.e. the ratio between time-consuming and fun seems off for me. But I'll wait for your next post on it.

It is getting faster now, I can see this generating some good crypto. Need to do some cost calculations. !LUV

I had spread myself pretty thin NFT wise, so I skipped this one when it came out. It looks like they have put together a decent game versus some of the other projects I invested in.

Yes it is still running which is a good sign. Some NFT prices way down for people, so I'm happy to be stacking them now..

I'm trying to decide if I want to sell all my Million on Mars stuff right now. Getting more WAX while it is low could be a good thing.

How have the NFTs faired there? I might take a look at that next! !LOL

Personally, I find their model really annoying. I spent a good deal of money to get a couple founder tokens. I have a ton of airdrops, but I haven't really done anything with the game because I am just not a fan of the gameplay. They just seem to make stuff up on the fly and implement it randomly. I think most of the stuff I am holding has been effectively nerfed as they introduce new stuff. They don't do a very good job of taking care of their early supporters. I know several people who invested and got out right away once they saw where it was heading. I wasn't so lucky. Story of my life...

Oh man! Thats annoying. Timing isnt easy. I guess its the same story in most places with NFTs, releasing newer and better cards, destroys the value of the older ones.

I can appreciate the fact that they are continuing to develop, it's just the lack of focus or a roadmap that drives me crazy. The fact that people are still playing it and they keep coming out with new stuff is what has kept me from dumping so far. I don't want to miss out on a run come the next bull market.

That looks like a pretty cool game - will be interesting to see how the earning goes with it !

Oh, another game on wax? Do you also play wombat?

Not yet, is it good?

It’s a very much passive game. If you have many NFT’s on wax, you can login and check if any of them can be staked. I have a small amount of them, so I occasionally login to set my wombat for adventure and gather some resources. Couple times I was lucky to pull some NFT packs, which I also staked. It’s a nice and easy game that runs in the background.

Thanks, 👍 I will check it out and make a post soon. 😎 !CTP

This was a fun post to read. I was playing Train of the Century as well but took a break. I need to login to WAX and check it out. Thank you for sharing your journey and I can't wait for the update.

Thanks, it's very good so far. Good luck with your playing. !CTP
