GL Goals: 2nd Beta League and 1st Cup Results

in Hive Gaming7 months ago (edited)

The 2nd Beta competition in the Genesis League Goals NFT game ended on Sunday.

After the first one, which I wrote about here, the number of participants increased, and in addition to the league, we also organized a cup.

For those unfamiliar with the game, GL Goals is an NFT soccer game in Beta phase from the makers of Splinterlands. You can find more information on the following links if you are interested:

Whitepaper

GLG - Discord

Learning from the first one, this time we asked the players to indicate which time zone they live in. Based on this, the 16 participants were divided into 2 groups. We didn't take this into account in the cup, everyone could get together with everyone.

7 people were placed in group A, while 9 in group B. Everyone played everyone twice.

This time, no extra criteria were set, so the top NFT player cards were mostly used by most of the participants. (For the next one, we'll definitely change this a bit so that even those with fewer player cards that don't have the best stats can be competitive, too.)

1 week was available to play all the matches. In the cup, 2 days to complete a round. (This meant 2 games.)

The prizes

As before, @michiel87 offered 3 Gold Foil Coach cards (Their current market value is around $10 each!). Thanks again for that! These were the prizes for the first places in the two groups and in the cup.

In addition, the 2nd, 3rd and cup runner-up could win Regular Foil coach cards and everyone received GLX for the points earned in the league, GLGT for the matches played in the cup, for advancing to the next round.

Unlike the first one, here I wouldn't share everyone's team, only the top 3. If you are interested in this, everyone's team can still be found on the GL Goals Discord server.

Group A final result and all match results:

The winner was @leqclibre, mainly due to him scoring 4 points against the runner-up @deerambo. It was the first participation for both of them, as was the 3rd @salomfishbee. Their teams:

@leqclibre

@deerambo

@salomfishbee

It is worth mentioning that the world has changed a lot since the first one. @globalwarming won the first one, but is now only 6th in this group.

Group B final result and all match results:

Here, too, 'newcomers' finished at the top. @michiel87 won it in a very close race ahead of @greenmask9.

Their last 2-2 match was both against @nightfalcon, when @greenmask9 was leading. However, these results reversed the order:

At least one of the players who participated in the first managed to stand on the podium here. @splinterbin is now 3rd after his previous 2nd place.

Their teams:

@michiel87

@greenmask9

@splinterbin

In the cup, the qualification was also decided in 2 matches. If the overall result was a tie, the matches had to be played until the first victory.

Here in the final @deerambo fought back against @leqclibre for losing the match in the group and won the first cup!

Thanks to everyone for participating! Congratulations to the winners!

My own performance, thoughts

I almost completely used the previous team this time as well. Since I don't have many top cards, the expectations weren't high either. Maybe enough to get an average of 1 point per match. Which was accomplished. There were surprising results, both positive and negative.

I have already outlined the swings resulting from variance in this post. In addition, there are still no skills and card leveling, there is also no synergy and other dynamic statistics. So, there is no point in forming a more serious opinion.

In some cases, I do not understand the effects of the coaches, or I cannot translate them into the displayed %. I hope that soon they will make public which coaches give what % improvement for certain stats.

Beta Competitions

On the whole, I can only comment positively on the 2 Beta tournaments played so far.

Similar feedback was received from the other participants, and even before the end of this one, some asked when the next one would start. 😀

It's great for promoting the game, trying out teams and formations while we wait for the upcoming ranked play. New (and old) users also appeared on the game's Discord server. Several people share their experiences, observations, and opinions about the game, give some feedback. By the way, more people are playing the game, as well.

Next Beta Tournament

The next Beta league and cup competitions will start in a few days. If you are interested, you can find more information about it in the 'tournament' thread on the game's official Discord page.

Registration will be similar to the previous ones, the team must be posted on Discord. The exact restrictions regarding the composition of the team have not yet been finalized, but it would definitely be nice to try a version where the players would also use the non-top cards.

Thanks for reading! Good luck in the next one!
