I hope you guys are having spooktacular weekend. I've crunched pretty hard in the past two weeks on this animation and I'm pretty tired (lol). But I love Halloween, so I wanted to try and get this animation out as soon as possible for you guys. I think the last Halloween post I've made was 4 years ago. A lot of stuff has happened within that time frame. However, I definitely want to make it an annual thing to make Halloween content every year.

Inspiration

My Inspiration for this animation was Olli Olli world. I had played this game last year and immediately felt in love with it. The music, the complex gameplay, and the art style is what drew me towards it. Especially the art style. It reminds of Adventure Time on Cartoon Network. My other inspiration for the project was Samurai Champloo and Adult Swim bumpers, which is hiphop inspired.

Progress

I looked on Skatchfab and bought a cartoon model that resembles Olli Olli World characters. You can see that model Here. I also had a sweater model from a few years ago and used that for the character. I modify it to fit the character model. Then I pretty much textured it with my logo and made the orange and black shaders for the character. I did the same for the skateboard, which was done in photoshop. I thought it looked cute (lol). I would have done the same kind of shader like from the game but I didn't have enough time to do. Maybe next time :( I do like how the models resembles 2D characters though. I'll have to study up more on that.

I then created the bones for the character, which surprisingly didn't take that long. Unfortunately I had to weight paint the model again. So I told myself that I wouldn't do it this time. Because it would just take to long and plus I was a on schedule. I actually paid someone on fiver to do it for me. And this guy did it in just a few hours!!! Usually it takes me like week. I was so grateful to him. He said that I was a good client to him and that I was kind. I'm definitely going back to him when I need another character weight painted.

After I was done texturing my character. I then started resource gathering and the animation process. I referenced Olli Olli Worlds skateboard trick animations. I honestly thought that it would be complicated to animate a skateboard, but it was actually rather simple. Obviously it was tedious but simple. For the dancing animations however, I used mixamo which has free mocap data. For the environment, I used Grand Theft Auto San Andreas map. It was...a lot faster than modeling a whole map, which saved me a ton of time. After the animation process, I rendered all 14 scenes I've made which took a whole day and immediately started editing the footage in After Effects and Premiere Pro programs the next day. I did my little editing techniques like I always do. Here's what became of those results.

Annnd that's all folks, I really hope you enjoyed that Halloween video I've made. I worked very hard to get it out by today. I think I'm going to take a bit of a break though.
