On June 9, 2014, at the E3 conference, Sony announced what could be the most ambitious game of the decade: «No Man's Sky». A title that promised the player the possibility of exploring an entire universe, with more than 18 billion planets generated by means of a procedural algorithm; each of them with completely different biomes, resources and creatures. A survival game in which the player could satisfy his desire to be the first to claim, in a vast and inhospitable cosmos, a place to establish himself (in the company of other players) — the dream of any Sci Fi lover.

Unfortunately, the game did not deliver on what was promised, leaving 95% of the community unhappy. An initially revolutionary idea that ended up becoming one of the biggest disappointments in history ... but ... ¿what were the reasons?

To answer this question, let's look at some of the problems...

Error en el planeta Guiltybit | Bug on the Guiltybit planet

A PATHETIC optimization

Like any computer program, video game development isn't without the Software release life cycle rule: a set of recognition stages in the progression of app creation — so you can identify how much progress has been made and how much is missing...

It seems that in «No Man's Sky» this rule didn't matter much, since from the first day of its release the title turned out to be totally impossible to play for many users, due to the horrors in the technical and performance section:

This title featured countless downgrade issues, frame rate instability (between 10 and 30 frames per second), compatibility errors, continuous crash issues and poor optimization — resulting in total game loss...

This caused a gigantic loss in the number of players who left the game (over 130,000 in the first two weeks).

A REPETITIVE ecosystem

The Hello Games video game shared at the E3 2014 convention featured extraordinary and unpredictable biomes, planets, and creatures (both terrestrial and aquatic); full of bright and colorful graphic patterns. Nothing is further from reality.

When trying «No Man's Sky», the player realizes that the planets are empty and quite similar to each other. The few resources, animals and minerals that exist, are almost everywhere — A disadvantage for a game that claims to have more than 18 billion planets.

This small variety makes the strength of this title, which is exploration and survival, useless.

Poster "Multijugador" | "Multiplayer" poster

Modo Multijugador INEXISTENTE

NON-EXISTING multiplayer mode

One of the factors that could turn this adventure into a more bearable and interesting experience, never existed until 4 YEARS after its launch; the Multiplayer mode.

It should be clarified that long before the game was released, creator Sean Murray promoted it in countless interviews where he was always asked the same question:

¿Would the game have a multiplayer option?

The answer was yes, it would have a multiplayer mode that would represent an important part of the experience but, like any open world title, it would be difficult and "unlikely" to meet other users.

When the game came out, the community realized it was one of the Hallo Games farce.

Expectativas vs Realidad | Expectations vs Reality

LIES everywhere

The launch of «No Man's Sky» revealed one of the biggest problems in the industry: lies. Much of what Hallo Games taught at E3 was fiction, and after several internet searches I found some things that the game promised in its first version, and it was never fulfilled until years later:

Planetary Physics, Space Fleet Attacks, Asteroid Landing, Ring Planets, Multiplayer, Aquatic Life, Biggest Scale Battles, Freighters, Giant Reptiles, Radio Conversation, Variety of Ships, Black Holes, and more.

No Man's Sky went from being the revelation of the year to an urn filled with lies and shattered hopes.

CONCLUSION

There are people who blame Hello Games for presenting «No Man's Sky» as a title for all audiences, and it clearly wasn't. This was a game dedicated to lovers of the exploration, collecting and survival genre, but it turns out that even the intended audience couldn't help but feel disappointed, because the result was mediocre or simply non-existent, in some cases.

The truth is that despite the fact that many of the bugs have been resolved, the stain of this game that BLATANTLY lied will be immortalized in history ...
