2023 is already the Remaster/Remake year and it's looking good

I don't think I can remember a time when I'm more excited about the different releases that are announced throughout the year, only in March we already have some strong candidates for game of the year but we still have to wait for the main course which are the last months of the year when most of the strong developers release a game.

Capcom

That's not what I'm going to talk about in this post, but a topic that I've been liking for a while and that's the updates that some classics have taking advantage of modern hardware, the so called Remaster or Remake are different terms but share the same essence: take a game that already has its years and that to modern eyes can look a little outdated and give it a new look following the original legacy.

Remasters have taken centre stage in this first half of the year, the charm of certain titles I think is encapsulated in their base form but there are certain titles that I love that are getting a new release, Dead Space is one of them, I played the trilogy a few years ago and even back then the graphics looked a bit dated.

But this new version seems to go beyond a weak port, the developers have really taken their time to put the pieces in order, I appreciate it even more because I know that horror titles are not too profitable for these studios, just by watching a piece of gameplay you can understand how well they have done.

Everything that is the gameplay, the graphics, the feel of the game has changed, Dead Space is a game that although it had its particular feel if I think it was a little rough in terms of gameplay, here it seems that they have made the game from 0 having only as a starting point that feeling of terror in space, even having games like The Callisto Protocol I think this development had greater impact.

This week will be in shops another remake that has an incredible look, although Resident Evil already has a history with such developments I think Resident Evil 4 Remake is raising quite a few sensations among players, partly because for some time several want to play this installment reimagined after the success of the second installment going through the same reimagining.

I think Resident Evil is the one that has a little more experience with this type of releases, I've seen some gameplays and it looks like here they have perfected everything there was to improve, we'll have to see how it goes with that bumpy gameplay that characterized the first games but the graphics seem to me that is the most accomplished they have been able to do.

Another one that also adds to the load with a remaster is Nintendo, I know them for wanting to sell anything related to their retro games but this time they have surprised me, again bringing a saga that is undervalued to the extreme as Metroid but also giving it that new air that it deserved now that we have a sketch as Metroid: Dread.

Metroid Prime: Remaster is another game I'm adding to a personal list, I played the first ones on the gamecube and spent most of my teenage years playing the trilogy that was released on the wii but since then nintendo has been neglecting the franchise until they decided to revive it a little over a year ago, now it looks like they are taking it more seriously and I couldn't be happier, now I want the same for F-Zero.

I hope that the recent success of these types of games will give enough confidence to more developers to bring back titles that we are crying out for a relaunch, seeing as the industry has no clear ideas and it's been a while since we've seen the release of a successful IP my bet is that we'll start to see a return to the roots.

Even EA are already thinking about remastering Dead Space 2 and 3 and it makes sense, it's a bet that has already proven to be safe, the first game was successful plus they are titles that already have a solid foundation in the first remaster and you just have to adapt everything you see to that model, it's really exciting to see that they can bring this back but I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

I hope they don't ruin what is already very good with the remake, I still remember playing RE4 in the computer emulator, a game note 10.

I have yet to play it but I think I'll pass on it and play the remake once I get it

Remakes seem to be this year's fashion. I don't know which of these will be the most successful, but EA usually doesn't make very good remakes because they only care about the players' money. Which one do you think will be the best?

I would give EA some hope but first I need to see gameplay and see how they will approach their remake idea

With how many rumors there were for a Prime Remastered and ended up becoming true with this release, I'm REALLY hoping that the new F-Zero GX remaster rumor floating around ends up being true (considering that they say its Next Level Games behind it too). On the note of the other game remakes mentioned, it is cool that RE4 is being brought back with a fresh coat of paint and that the Dead Space remake actually ended up being good (because DS fans really needed something good after so long).

Knowing Nintendo I think Star Fox is first in the starting line and then -Zero, but I'm still hopeful that they'll really do something next gen to all this

I´m happy that these remakes or remasters are actually doing good, Dead Space looks great and Resident Evil 4 remake looks fantastic, Metroid Prime Remastered looks great as well, we are having good with remakres/remasters but I do hope this won´t become into a trend, I want new ideas, new IPs, new games, I dunno, maybe I´m being dramatic but it´s cool to see great releases.
