Intro
What's new? I've decided to make the posts in this series entirely in English. Previously, I used "[ENG|ESP]," but honestly, it's much easier to structure the text when it's all in one language.
I love this community for sharing topics related to video games and gameplay experiences from any game I'm trying out. If it were up to me, all my posts would probably be in Spanish since it's the language I'm most fluent in. However, I also really like English, and it's a universal language. I hope my Spanish-speaking readers understand. The community rules for single-language posts require English.
I'll continue sharing my experiences in this sandbox game called Kenshi. In the previous post, we explored, engaged in battles, looted fallen warriors from external skirmishes, and even bought a pet.
The current goal (besides improving my skills in the game) is to make enough money to eventually settle in a location. Survival is the top priority, as the game naturally pushes you in that direction. There's a hunger meter, and NPC groups constantly try to rob you. Without a doubt, we need to get stronger, and the main challenge is learning how to achieve that.
The First House
We bought a small house. It was a ruined building, so we had to remodel it.
The property was relatively cheap, but we had to invest more to repair it.
The game features a building system that feels like a mix of The Sims and Age of Empires. You can automate material collection tasks and store them in your house.
Here we can see Marowak guarding the entrance while we build.
Research Table
We decided to start with a research table. This lets you research new technologies, unlocking and building them in a valid area.
However, we didn’t have enough materials to finish building it, so we ventured out to gather resources.
Along the way, we encountered some escaped slaves.
Slavery exists in this game.
Two of them had fallen unconscious. Their inventories only contained shackles on their limbs and necks.
We didn’t pay much attention to them and continued gathering materials to complete the research table.
Once we finished building the research table, we could start unlocking some technologies. To do this, we needed books, which could be bought or found along the way.
Fights Around
While wandering around, we spotted someone running from a guard. We wanted to attack them, but they had a crossbow. One arrow to the chest took us down instantly.
This was the first arrow my character had taken in the game. They immediately fell to the ground after being hit.
We returned home, and I bought a greatsword. I haven’t stopped testing weapons to find the one that suits me best.
Later that night, I encountered another crossbow user. This time, I sought revenge. The NPC switched to fighting with their fists as I got close enough for melee combat.
Without their crossbow, they were at a disadvantage against my new greatsword.
Blocking a greatsword with fists didn’t go well for them.
And that’s how I acquired a new crossbow.
After returning home, I treated the injuries from the fight and built a storage area for armor and weapons we decided not to sell.
I stored the loot from the crossbow fight there and called it a day for this session.
Summary
This game is highly addictive during the first sessions. I enjoy the evolving storyline. So far, none of my characters have died, but if it happens, I plan to make it part of the story.
We managed to buy our first house. Although we dream of building an entire city, we currently lack the resources. It's a long-term goal, but we'll get there...
