Coffee Trends and Tumblers

According to my friend, there’s always a new coffee shop in town every 3 months. I find that fact really interesting because it just means competition is always getting tougher and coffee trends have their own limit. I notice this with old places that I used to frequent are getting closed down, those that survived did their best to either improve their product, follow the trend or simply tried their best to survive during this fierce climate of coffee business. Maybe there’s some type of tiredness with regular looking cafes selling lattes and non-coffee stuff that street coffee and slow bars are popping up. There also seems to be a divide, if you are a true coffee aficionado, a cute cafe might be the place you’re skipping and street coffee or slow bar with more affordable “real” coffee is the go-to option.

I wonder if cafe pricing has also been the deciding factor to the downtrend of cafes. Coffee isn’t really a necessity for many over here and they go to fancy cafes to socialize & if they want coffee that perks them up, there’s always corner stores with instant caffeine beverages and cheaper coffee that packs a punch because they sell robusta rather than arabica.

These days, I find myself going back to the same place I used to go. While they had their slow days and declining service in the past, the other day I went there again and they improved their service. Their matcha espresso was just like how I remembered. I stayed there with a friend for hours and it was so refreshing and nostalgic. These days I go there only for go-to matcha espresso and they even gave me a free additional espresso shot that I didn’t even think was for free.

These days I bring my own tumbler at the coffee shop. I am trying to avoid using plastic because more often than not, the ice melted really fast and changed the coffee taste. So, I either use my steel tumbler or the glass tumbler that I carry whenever I am going to a coffee shop these days.

In the past, I loved staying at a cafe but these days, I would rather be home and do everything at home. While my room isn’t the coldest like coffee, I have a lot more focus by being alone. Another thing that I lately enjoy is just the commute from home to cafe and vice versa.
