Weeding Winter Away

MY GARDEN IS BACK TO LIFE

Weeding progress from right to left :)

Where did April go? Wasn't it just March a few days ago? I had planned to spend a lot of time on my little garden this year that I did last year when I basically neglected it. It did well, but the harvest was poor and mostly eaten by the birds and squirrels :)

I had a lot of weed to clear this year, which I did in March, and have touched it up again lately, but I haven't planted anything new this year. What I have growing now are basically the berries that survived the winter time.

Talking of which, it's astonishing to me how resilient some of these berries are. I mean, in winter, I was certain some of them were dead judging by the dry lifeless look they took on. Come spring time, out came the green leaves and we now even have flowers blooming on some of them.

Perhaps even more surprising is the fact that the spring onions are thriving too! Not only are they thriving, they have also multiplied! I've already had some of that with omelettes in the morning haha. Even though their bloom is usually short-lived, they still do very well since none of the wildlife is interested in them at all. Too tangy I can imagine.

Talking of wildlife, I now have not one, but 4 cats that casually hop into my backyard. I'm certain some of them are using my flowerbed as their toilet. The squirrels are also back in force this year. They'd reduced in number over the past few years but they seem to be back. Perhaps a new, more fertile, group moved into the area and procreated successfully. Maybe they've lost a bunch of their natural predators. I would have expected the increase in the number of cats in the neighbourhood to deter them a little, but nope.

The birds have also increased bot in variety and numbers. I've seen some birds I don't even recognise casually land on my lawn and avail themselves of whatever it is they find palatable. Could it be worms, grass buds, perhaps some food item blown there by the winds or dropped their by another animal; birds, squirrels or cats. The squirrels are bringing a lot of strange things into my yard I've noticed. I think the neighbour leaves out some food for the animals, so that might also be part of the attraction.

I need to buy a few garden items this year. My 15 year old water hose has finally developed some holes. I could fix the hols but, honestly, they're so cheap now that I could probably spend less getting a shiny new one, than buying the required adhesive. I don't think anything I buy today would give me 15 years of service though. They don't make them like that anymore. We are in the age of planed obsolescence.

It's a shame brands aren't sending me garden stuff to review. I would love that. I think they've put me down as a "gadgets" guy. Perhaps I should look for some brands and reach out to them, you never know. I mean, after all, an electric lawn mower if a gadget isn't it?

Yeehaw! What a tale of resilience and growth in your garden, partner! Keep tending to those berries and spring onions, and who knows what surprises await you next season. Keep the cowboy spirit alive in your garden, friend.

Indeed. I'm looking forward to some sweet fruits when the time comes. I just have to beat the animals to it haha

Yeehaw! Your spirit shines brighter than a campfire at dusk. Keep tendin' that fire of yours, and the sweet fruits will surely find their way to you. Happy tale-spinnin' under the stars!

Wow
I never knew you had a garden
I’ve only known you as a lover of coffee
I’m glad to know this part of you

haha. Fun fact, the coffee residue at the bottom of the mug is like fertiliser for the plants :)

It is exactly like that in summer we see that all the trees on the top of the tree are shedding their leaves which makes them return to their beauty.
