A Little Trial-and-Error Peanut Edition! ๐Ÿฅœ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ˜€

in HiveGarden โ€ข last month

Hi garden lovers! While we are enjoying our summer vacation, I finally have plenty of time to check our backyard and little garden at home. Although some of our plants are a bit withered because of the scorching summer sun, we still have some plants that thrive well and give us a good harvest, just like our peanuts.

Well, our peanuts are not yet in great quantity. We only planted one plot/box of peanuts. We are in a trial-and-error stage in planting these crops. ๐Ÿ˜ Usually, we only plant okra, eggplants, and beans in our backyard; however, over time, we noticed that the veggie plants were no longer yielding a good harvest. So, mother suggested trying planting another variety this time, like peanuts, because these plants require less care.

My mother planted the peanuts last January. I checked the internet to find how long we can grow and harvest the peanuts, and it says 4-6 months, depending on the variety and growing conditions. But it highlights that the best season to plant peanuts is during October-January! With so much positivity, we still planted it despite being late. After all, if the plant is good and suits our soil and climate, then maybe these peanuts will give us a decent harvest. Indeed, a trial and error! Hehe.

And so the day came that we harvested our peanuts! It hasn't been exactly 6 months since January, but we noticed that some stems of it had already turned yellow! Worried that the peanuts might wither and spoil before harvesting them, we decided to harvest them already. Better safe than sorry.

Together with my daughter, niece, and mother, we started uprooting the peanuts. It's girl power over this tiny patch of peanuts. Haha

Every peanut we uprooted was filled with our anticipation, as we really don't have a clue whether these plants will produce a good harvest! I noticed that the yellow ones have fewer pods, while the greener ones gave us a better yield.

Some of the peanuts did yield good-sized peanuts, and the matured ones same as those peanuts that we can buy in the market. I tried tasting one and it had that fresh and milky flavor that told me "Yes, it's harvest time!"

We gathered all the plants we uprooted and picked the peanuts for our own consumption.

This harvest may be small, but I know this will satisfy our tummies because this is a fruit of our labor, even if it was more of a trial-and-error one. Hehe. I realized that in planting, sometimes we have to lower our expectations and just enjoy the planting, and see the result at the end. Though proper care is indeed important for the plants to grow healthily and give us a great harvest, what I realized in this tiny peanut patch of ours is to just let things be, and just embrace the joy of planting. If the result is good, then it's a blessing; if it is not, then it's a garden learning experience.

And since we know the outcome of our trial and error planting this summer, next time we will make sure to plant the peanuts during their peak season, and also consider planting a larger quantity and prepare the fertilizers needed to ensure better growth and harvest.
