Come, Let's have A QUICK TOUR in my humble Garden!💞

"If there is a house raid, there is also a garden raid😅... What could we find in my humble school garden? Well, come in... let's find out!🥰"

IMG20230530155220_01.jpg

A pleasant day to all the amazing people of the Hive! How are you today? I hope you are all fine and enthusiastic!🥰 Know that YOU are and will always be amazing no matter what, so just relax and SMILE!

In this post of mine, I will give you a tour to my small garden as promised in my last blog😅. I find this timely since the rainy season came early this year so I hope I could share some ideas about planting and what varieties of vegetables to plant and more.

Without further ado, come in and welcome to the Grade 7 - section Earth class' garden! If you scan your eyes around you will notice that aside from vegetables, I have ornamental plants also. It is because of the integration of vegetable gardens and landscaping in schools which is referred to as "Edible Landscaping"😊!

IMG20230530154949_01.jpg

As you enter the entrance, my tomato plant will greet you😅 which already bears its fruit and in the right-side corner are my newly transplanted tomatoes too. I've grown these tomato plants from the seeds of the overripe tomatoes I had at home.

IMG20230530161731_01.jpg

As you can see, there are few leaves left because recently I took off all the infected leaves🍂 caused by pests😔. I'm afraid it would infect its flowers and fruits so I immediately took them away. I am not sure if what I did would do badly on my tomatoes (hopefully not😔).

IMG20230530164458_01.jpg Say Hi to my newly transplanted babies😅...

Next stop: My "Okra"(Lady's Finger)

I planted my Okra in recycled plastic containers although it is best to plant this directly on soil. However, if you have a small planting area like mine, containerized gardening is most appropriate.

IMG20230529100656_01.jpg

Look, they are still young but I am pretty sure, by the looks of it, that they are about to flower. I can't wait and am excited about our first harvest soon😅🥰.

I placed these Okra plants besides tomatoes in this area because they both need a lot of sunlight and this is the part of my garden that has direct and longer sunlight exposure while the rest of my area is shaded.

IMG20230522084823_01.jpg

On my Okra's diagonally opposite position is where my Eggplant plants are located. I also put them in recycled plastic containers. They are now flowering and eggplants are showing off. We are excited to harvest them in no time💞.

Beside my Eggplants is where my Pechay plants are placed on an improvised platform I made.

IMG20230529100712_01.jpg These are newly transplanted Pechay, some of them already infected by pests and died😔...

The photo above is a replanted one. I have already harvested and consumed the first set of Pechay I planted in the same containers🥰.

Moving on: My Camote (Sweet Potato)

Opposite my eggplants, adjacent to Okra plants, are Camote or Sweet Potato. I utilized and planted them in sacks😅. This is widely known as a root crop rather than a vegetable plant but in our locality, its leaves and tops are served as vegetables.

At the center of the above-mentioned vegetable plants is an ornamental plant. I have flowering plants, too. I planted these because flowers are helpful to attract natural pollinators such as bees.

[Moving forward😅]
My Kang Kong with love!...

At the center part of the whole garden, you can find our "Twin Hearts" where I planted Chinese Kangkong (Swamp Cabbage). This leafy vegetable is very nutritious and delicious, especially in stewed and sauteed menus.

My Heart-eyed Emoji Sign😍

IMG20230427162654.jpg

This is the centermost part of the garden. If my garden is the stomach part of the human body then, this is the belly button😂😂. The circle is made of a used tire and cement.

My Garden's Emoji😍

Well, I am planning to repaint it and put the HivePh Logo instead😅. As the School and District Reading Coordinator, I am in the process of creating a Reading Park within this garden. Part of my plan is to incorporate Hive in it for I wanted to introduce Hive as one of the sources of reading materials for the students here in our school.

However, it is still a PLAN fellas and I am still in the process of drafting the proposal paper which is still to be approved by the school principal. Of course, I need to seek advice and permission, if this would be okay and possible, from our leaders/ mentors @indayclara and colleagues who are also in the Hive community.

Hello, Alugbate(Malabar Night Shade)

IMG20230522090935_01.jpg

IMG20230529100749_01.jpg

I planted it in the big heart😊. It is a very common leafy vegetable here in our locality. I am not sure but I guess, it belongs to the family of Spinach.

The Onion Leaves🥰

Onion leaves are one of the spices I had in my garden. I guess I would need to transfer these onion leaves to another area because this place is a shaded area and I think they need to be located in a place where they could get enough sunlight.

Fresh Lettuce

received_899010017861795~2.jpeg

I also have lettuce in my garden. This plant need a lot of water always so I planted them in a self-watering plastic bottles. In order to utilize the area, I opted to hang them in this area.

Ginger, My favorite!

IMG20230522091039_01.jpg

Ginger is my favorite because I love ginger tea not just as tea but also as herbal medicine at home. When I am bloated or had an upset stomach, I just simply boil a piece of ginger and add a little honey and I'll have a perfect herbal tea🥰😅!

Long live HOT PEPPER!

received_966975621286688~2.jpeg

On my previous garden, I have had hot pepper plants and even harvested a lot already. I got sad when there was reassignment of garden areas however, I managed to relive my hot pepper plants in my new garden area.

String Beans

IMG20230525113124_01.jpg

At first, I was hesitant of planting string beans in my area because from what I have known, this plant needs a lot of sunlight in which my area don't have. But still I did try. Whatever the outcome for this, good or not, I will keep you updated😂.

My Mini- Nursery

image.jpg

I believe that the sustainability of a garden will be determined only if a plant nursery is functional. Vegetable plants don't last long and it is vital to establish a nursery where you can get ready to be planted seedlings to replaced the old ones.

IMG20230430101429.jpg

IMG20230508082422.jpg

As you can see, I had it under the stairs, haha... I only have few varieties of vegetable plants in my mini-nursery. However, it is a lot better than nothing, right😅?

IMG20230508082406_01.jpg

Another flowery plant💞

IMG20230522091151_01.jpg

I don't know what's the name of this flowery plant😂. I hope you can educate me please, I will appreciate that much🥰! But this one is a good additional to your hanging plant and its flowers last long and do not wither easily!

Capture from The Exit😂

image.jpg

And that concludes this Garden raid Hiveians😅. Thank you for coming in! I hope you enjoyed what you found in my garden and somehow learn something from this and might share garden-related tips with me, too.

See you on my next blog then. Sending my warm hugs and best regards! Bye and God bless!🥰🤗

I will NEVER get sick of these school garden posts! And your posts are always so well presented with beautiful photos as well. Is this the same in every school where you are? It's such a good program! Be interested to see how you involve the school with HIVE.. I wondre if you could start a community and the children could write posts in English about their lives and the garden to share? I'd sure support that.

I am pleased and humbled for your kind comment @riverflows thank you so much💞... And Yes, every school has this because this is a nationwide greening program of the government. Not only schools but all government institutions are strongly encouraged to participate in this program and some institutions like schools, had this as a competition among schools. The main objective of this is to support feeding programs to help address malnutrition in our country.

About my planned proposal about establishing a reading park, yes, I am into the idea to incorporate HIVE , to introduce it to students as one of the sources of reading materials first, then eventually into writing once they are ready for it. Hopefully, it would be realized and it would be a dream come true for me if that would come true in the future. 💞😍

It's the Garden Emoji for me! So creative and fun to look at! And your son even makes the same facial expression. 😂 I really wonder how you teachers manage to do all the school stuff and still be able to take care of your gardens?! Hopefully, your students help you out.

Also, Where does the produce go to?

Haha.. Thank you so much miss! My kiddo really makes fun of his face whenever I tell him to pose for a picture😅,..

We, teachers, spend extra time in nurturing our garden, we even spend our weekends for it, too. Of course, our students and some parents extend their helping hands for its realization💞.

And for the last question miss, ahmm, I'll answer it on my next blog.. Hahahaha... Bitaw miss, school feeding na pdong jud then if ever, we can raise funds from the harvests, we share 20% of the sales to the school's greening programs.💞😅
