It’s been over a month since my last update. I left off with sharing about our dried basil, bell pepper plants budding and tomatoes coming in.
I am on our last small mason jar of basil. It’s been nice crumbling up the leaves and using them as I’m cooking.
This post will be like a two in one segment. I’m going to share the updates with you that I wanted to share a few weeks ago and then catch you up to how our garden is currently doing.
We’ve gotta talk about these peppers!
We have no idea where they came from. The only peppers we planted were bell peppers. These are so hot that no one in my family can handle them 🥵 lol. They must have been mixed in with the bell pepper seeds or we just overlooked what we were planting 🤷🏽♀️.
What’s crazy is that there is a whole section of them and we can’t even use them. We’ll find someone who can take the heat 🔥.
Moving along to the tomatoes…
No, these aren’t ours. These belong to Mr. and Mrs. B. Just thought they looked so nice and red so I snapped a photo to share.
Are ya ready? These are ours…
Nice and green as we wait for them to ripen. We are really hoping for a nice harvest of these soon.
Let me show you the bell peppers now. Aren’t they the cutest?
I love photographing plants at this stage because they look so adorable when they’re tiny. 🥰
We have these type of bell peppers too. Cute as a button 😄. When they’re big enough to eat I won’t be focused on how they look but how they taste 👅!
Remember we decided to grow more basil after we realized the cilantro wasn’t growing? Here’s a look at how that plant has been doing…pretty good if you ask me.
I would love to make more dried basil but also explore more on what to do with the fresh leaves.
Fast Forward
Now, let’s bring you up to present day.
I mentioned in a previous post that we failed to stake our tomato plants and were afraid they would get too heavy. Well, they did.
Unfortunately the thick parts of the tomato branches broke and all of the plants are now on the ground. The growth of the tomatoes have halted because of it. We’ve been dealing with several things at home that has caused us to lose track of our gardening time and sadly our plants have been greatly affected by it 😕.
I don’t think we’ll be seeing any red tomatoes this season.
The hot peppers turned red and my kids brought a few of them home to try again but had the same reaction 😆. They couldn’t take the 🔥.
The cute light green pepper I shared earlier turned red. Those peppers are the ones in the cover photo. I’m glad we will get to enjoy them.
The adorable little dark green peppers grew nicely too. Here’s one of them sitting with a red one…
With so much time passing in between our garden visits the basil plant flowered way too much. There were bumble bees and all kinds of insects flying around and through the plant.
My apiphobia started flaring up and I just couldn’t stay around. I wasn’t able to take any recent photos because of this. I just kept staring at all the bees and had to step away. I’m not able to garden under those conditions so we’ll have to revisit in the early morning hours when the insects aren’t quite buzzing yet.
I seriously want to invest in a sting proof bee suit.
This is the part about gardening that makes it so hard and uncomfortable for me. I wish I was completely over my fear of bees but that’s not the case.
I’ll come back and give another update once we return. Not sure what we’ll be able to salvage from the breakage and flowering plants but I hope to harvest once again before the Fall weather hits.

That's so funny! I wish I could send them to you because we will not be eating them 😅. Yes that makes sense. If you've eaten them since you were a child you are so used to them. I cannot take the heat of most foods 😄.

You do? Yes, I had a few traumatic experiences as a child that have caused this fear. I used to love being outdoors with no fear but now the buzzing triggers anxiety 😥. I've gotten a little better but still have quite a ways to go ~

Your garden looks so beautiful and flourishing. I'm extremely pumped about that nice looking pepper. It's similar to the Thai peppers we have at home and they're really hot to. But thankfully, everyone can handle the heat.😁🥵

Haha yep. All of our peppers are small too. It’s okay because small produce can still pack a great taste 😄.
No, we don’t have any fruits this round. Our friends that we garden with had apples and pears. Their strawberry patch lasted for the first part of Summer but then it got too hot.
