First seeds, first success: the start of my gardening journey [EN/FR]

Hello gardeners! I am really happy to share my progress with you because I feel like I am making progress on my personal farming journey. I am still in the thinking phase for my first vegetable garden.

I have enough space to do great things. But since it is my first time, I must not feel overwhelmed. So I will start "small." Maybe with 10m² or 20m², I don't know yet. You have to start somewhere, right?

I already have some ideas for vegetables:

• Tomatoes
• Butternut squash
• Green beans
• Broccoli
• Peas
• Radishes
• Carrots
• Potatoes
• Artichokes
• Lettuce

And of course, all kinds of herbs. It's already a great plan! I need to organize all this quickly.

My first seedlings

A little over 17 days ago, I started my first seedlings: red pepper. I think I started way too early.

Even though the growing tray is inside the house, most of the time, we only have 15°C to 17°C inside, which is not much. And I think that’s why it took time to sprout.

By the way, as you can see in the photo, my seeds are still shy. However, I added a plastic film to turn the tray into a greenhouse. For the past 5 days, we have had a lot of sunshine, which promotes growth, I imagine.

I can't wait to be able to put the plants in pots and then add them to my garden.

A week ago, I also tried to germinate butternut squash with seeds I had on hand from a recipe by @altheana. This morning, I saw that some of them are already starting to sprout.

I will leave them in their germinator for a little longer. I haven't measured the rootlets, but they already look almost 1 cm long. When they reach 2 cm, I will put them in a pot. This can go very fast because 2 days ago, when I looked, there was still nothing.

Spring is waking up

There are starting to be interesting things happening in the garden. First, the rosebush is beginning to grow leaves. I have never seen it in summer, so I can't wait to see what it will look like.

By the way, if you know what variety of rosebush this is, I would be curious to find out.

It is starting to grow leaves that are turning red. I installed an identification app, but for now, it seems inaccurate. I have to wait for the leaves and flowers to develop.

And in general, the whole garden is starting to wake up. I am really excited to see what the garden will look like in spring. In the meantime, I need to take time to prepare my vegetable garden.

I think I'll do that this weekend!

Bonjour les jardiniers ! Je suis vraiment content de partager avec vous mon avancée, car je sens que je progresse dans mon chemin personnel de l'agriculture. Je suis toujours en phase de réflexion pour mon premier potager.

J'ai suffisamment de place pour faire de grandes choses. Mais puisque c'est ma première fois, il ne faut pas que je me sente submergé. Je vais donc commencer "petit". Peut-être avec 10m² ou 20m², je ne sais pas encore. Il faut bien commencer quelque part, n'est-ce pas ?

Et bien sûr, tout ce qui est aromates. C'est déjà un beau programme ! Il faut que j'organise tout ça rapidement.

Mes premiers semis

Il y a un peu plus de 17 jours, j'ai commencé mes premiers semis : du piment rouge. Je pense que je m'y suis pris beaucoup trop tôt.

Même si le bac de culture est dans la maison, la plupart du temps, nous n'avons que 15°C à 17°C à l'intérieur, ce qui est peu. Et je pense que c'est pour ça que ça a mis du temps à sortir de terre.

D'ailleurs, comme vous pouvez le voir sur la photo, mes graines sont toujours timides. J'y ai tout de même ajouté un film plastique pour transformer le bac en serre. Depuis 5 jours, nous avons beaucoup de soleil, ce qui favorise la pousse, j'imagine.

J'ai hâte de pouvoir mettre les plants en pots et ensuite de les ajouter à mon jardin.

Il y a une semaine, j'ai aussi tenté de faire germer de la butternut avec des graines que j'avais sous la main suite à une recette d'@altheana. Ce matin, j'ai vu que certaines d'entre elles commencent déjà à germer.

Je vais encore les laisser un peu dans leur germoir. Je n'ai pas mesuré les radicelles, mais on dirait qu'elles font déjà presque 1 cm. Lorsqu'elles feront 2 cm, je les mettrai dans un pot. Ça peut aller très vite, car il y a 2 jours, quand j'ai regardé, il n'y avait encore rien.

Le printemps se réveille

Il commence à y avoir des choses intéressantes qui se passent dans le jardin. Premièrement, le rosier commence à prendre ses feuilles. Je ne l'ai encore jamais vu en été, j'ai donc hâte de voir ce que ça va donner.

D'ailleurs, si vous savez de quelle variété de rosier il s'agit, je serais curieux de le savoir.

Il commence à faire des feuilles qui virent vers le rouge. J'ai installé une application d'identification, mais pour le moment, il semblerait que ce ne soit pas précis. Je dois attendre que les feuilles et fleurs se développent.

Et d'une manière générale, l'ensemble du jardin commence à se réveiller. Je suis vraiment enthousiaste à l'idée de voir à quoi ressemblera le jardin au printemps. En attendant, il faut que je prenne du temps pour préparer mon potager.
