East Shed - 4.iris reticulata and 5. chiondoxa crop March 2023.jpg

On Tuesday the day started well, but I crashed at 8:30AM. When my helper friend arrived at 9:30 he went out back for something and came back and announced I had “pixie” iris open. So I went out and got a photo of the Iris reticulata in the East Shed garden. Next to it is a chiondoxa with buds.

He got all the seedlings fed and then moved the plants on the roundtop window’s windowseat upstairs to the old office. I hope they do okay up there. When plants are doing well somewhere, I hate moving them.

I had managed to figure out where the next seed starting would go, and made a list of the equipment we needed to bring up from the cellar to set up.

First we set up the 4’ frame my husband had made me a few years ago.

Then we got it in place and got the heat mat and light set up and working (I hope).

My helper friend still had 20 minutes left so we set up the south porch shelving and light. I cleaned up what was left.

This the mesclun on the north side of the porch. It will soon be big enough to harvest for a salad.

I didn’t get much else done the rest of the day, just finished watching the last season of Doc Martin and to bed early.

On Wednesday my tenant and I are going out to the barn. I will tackle that awful bench mess in the workshop and he will tackle the 3rd bay. It’s to be a beautiful day, the last until next week. It’s to be pretty cold and rainy on Thursday so I think we’ll start seeds that day. Then hopefully back to the barn on Friday and finish the workshop and perhaps another bay.

It amazes me how fast you have stuff pop up, we have barely a few clumps of green grass showing anywhere around the farm.
