Papa's Garden

We drove to my father-in-law's place around 3 pm today after attending the burial of their relative in the neighboring town. The old man wasn't home yet so while the husband visited Mr. B at the farms, my little guy and I helped ourselves for a wee adventure in the vicinity and took photos of various plants and blooms around.

These for instance are aloe vera flowers. They were growing across mom-in-law's resting place. I find them quite nice and cheerful with their colors. I remember photographing another set of them last year down their property. My pot of aloe vera in our yard is not matured yet as these ones.

Walking a few meters further, I gasped at the sight of wild tomatoes. The fruits are so many and they are colorful with the majority of them red as they are already ripe. I learned that the old man doesn't harvest them because when he eats more, he feels discomfort in his joints. They are highly acidic, that's why.

This was one of the varieties that we used to have in our yard in the previous years but haven't had the chance to grow it lately. I was fascinated to see them generously fruiting as ever.

There were also Peruvian Lilies blooming amongst the spring onions. The stick herbs across the golden bush hedge are still thriving despite the dry season. "Boil them as tea. They are good for cough," mom-in-law used to say.

We brought a bunch of them some years back and they have since multiplied them in various locations along the sides of their house. I wondered if they ever used them as tea.

Their citrus trees are also flowering. I imagine they would start fruiting around May or June. Unlike in the previous year, no bees were buzzing around. I wondered if they had gone away or if they were yet to come. I remembered having lunch under this tree a year ago (March) when we surprised my father-in-law on his birthday, and there were bees then.

And yep, here's my little guy enjoying the view. He was growling at the big dog when we arrived but I was glad he stopped when we walked farther away.

Anyhow, the husband was done with his errand and we drove away for home just before 5 in the afternoon. It was a nice, quick visit and we will be going there again in a week or two to catch up with the old man.

Meanwhile, it's going to be another hectic week for us and I'm fervently hoping things will be good from today.
