RE: Spring Garden Journal - My Favourite Flowers Turned Up

in HiveGarden19 days ago

Your wife did great taking care of the 🪴. Great your tomatoes 🍅 and pepper 🌶 are doing great. I actually tried planting in a pot and was unsuccessful, I think it's the soil, maybe it's not fertile enough, I gave up after a failed attempt 😅

Thank you ! We're so lucky that we've got good soil here. It's quite heavy and clay-based (in Victorian times, our road had several potteries using local clay), but we constantly work to improve it.

It's not too hard or expensive - although we add some fertilisers, mostly it's done with compost we make ourselves from cuttings, twigs, vegetable peel, eggshells etc. The key is to just keep doing it regularly, a little bit at a time, year in year out. Enough water is a big help, too !

That sounds like a lot of work 😅 but thanks for the information. Maybe when we eventually own our own space, I will try planting again.

It's not too much work, if you've got space for a small compost heap. Just a case of remembering to add the right things to it (no meat or weed seeds !) keeping it moist, and turning it every few weeks. Then using it whenever you plant anything. But yeah, it works best when you've got your own place - it might be a bit weird moving house and taking the compost heap with you 😂

😅😅😅 really weird....I think I would probably get fertilizer and add to the plant, might work. It's raining season here, noticed the plant started growing and they are too many of them. I don't think they would survive.

I would snap and show it to you tomorrow to advice me on what to do. Thanks 😊
