Second Week Work in Our Little Garden

Greetings everyone. In my first post to the community last week, I mentioned our small garden in front of our apartment and told that we planted the first vegetable seedlings of the year. Today, I would like to talk to you about how the situation in the garden has improved in the past week.

Herkese selamlar. Geçen hafta toplulukta yaptığım ilk paylaşımımda apartmanımızın önündeki küçük bahçemizden bahsetmiş ve yılın ilk sebze fidelerini toprağa diktiğimizi anlatmıştım. Bugün de sizlere geçtiğimiz bir hafta içerisinde bahçedeki durumda nasıl bir gelişim oldu bundan bahsetmek istiyorum.

You know, we give small amounts of water, which we call life water, to the first plant roots of the seedlings. This small irrigation can be called the first dynamic contact of the seedlings with the soil. Then we waited for a day or two to pass and we took action to make a real irrigation. What determined the time that passed was how hot the weather went after the life water. Since the temperatures have risen above 30 degrees these days, the plants soon became dehydrated and we noticed that the soil began to dry out. This was the first sign for us to do intensive irrigation. With the help of our neighbor, the entire garden was watered. Of course, with the irrigation of the new seedlings, the pine and rose trees that existed in our garden for a long time were also watered. We are witnessing their growth over the years. This is a special detail for us.

Fideleri ilk bitki köklerine can suyu dediğimiz küçük miktarlarda su veriyoruz biliyorsunuz. Bu küçük sulamaya fidelerin toprakla ilk dinamik teması diyebiliriz. Ardından bir iki gün geçmesini bekledik ve gerçek bir sulama yapmak için harekete geçtik. Aradan geçen zamanı belirleyen şey ise can suyundan sonra havaların ne kadar sıcak gittiği idi. Bu aralar sıcaklıklar 30 derecenin de üzerine çıktığı için bitkiler kısa zamanda susuz kaldı ve toprağın kurumaya başladığını fark ettik. Bu da yoğun bir sulama yapmamız için ilk işaret oldu. Komşumuzun da yardımıyla bahçenin tamamı sulandı. Tabi yeni fidelerin sulanmasıyla birlikte bahçemizde önceden beri var olan çam ve gül ağaçları da sulanmış oldu. About three more days passed after the second day of watering, and the soil was again dehydrated. When we saw this, we made an irrigation again. It takes between 1 and 2 hours to water our entire garden. This period may seem long to you, but since the area is narrow in apartment lands, the seedling gaps are not wide enough and inclined. Therefore, the irrigation process turns into a process that requires special attention. We do not need a drip irrigation system due to the small size of the garden, maybe we can think about it in the future. Let me not go without saying this. We should have done a little hoeing before the soil got too hard, but we left it until the next week due to time constraints. In the next week, we will hoe and ventilate the plant roots again.

İkinci gün sulamasının ardından üç gün kadar daha geçti ve toprak tekrar susuz kaldı. Bunu görünce yeniden bir sulama yaptık. Bahçemizin tamamının sulanması da 1 ile 2 saat arası sürüyor. Bu süre size uzun gelebilir fakat apartman arazilerinde alan dar olduğu için fide araları yeterince geniş ve eğimli olmuyor. Dolayısıyla sulama işlemi özel ilgi isteyen bir işleme dönüyor. Bahçenin küçüklüğünden ötürü de damla sulama sistemine ihtiyaç duymuyoruz, belki ilerde bunu da düşünebiliriz. Şunu da söylemeden geçmeyeyim. Toprak çok sertleşmeden küçük bir çapalama işlemi de yapmamız gerekirdi fakat vakit sıkıntısı sebebiyle bunu bir sonraki haftaya bıraktık. Önümüzdeki hafta içinde çapa yaparak bitki köklerine tekrar havalandırma yapacağız.

Now I would like to talk a little bit about the status of one-week-old seedlings. Since a very short time has passed, we have not witnessed a meaningful growth and development. We think that all the seedlings have started to cling to the soil at this time. In a week or two, we will have a better chance to compare and detect the development of their height. For this reason, it would not be right to say too much about this subject, but we guess that tomato seedlings are more attached to the soil than cucumber and pepper seedlings.

Şimdi bir haftalık fidelerin durumundan da biraz bahsetmek istiyorum. Aradan henüz çok kısa bir zaman geçtiği için anlamlı bir büyümeye ve gelişime şahit olmadık. Bu sıralar tüm fidelerin toprağa tutunmaya başladığını düşünüyoruz. Bir iki hafta içerisinde boylarındaki gelişimi karşılaştırma ve tespit etme şansımız daha fazla olacaktır. Bu sebeple bu konuda çok fazla bir şey demek doğru olmaz fakat domates fidelerinin salatalık ve biber fidelerine göre toprağa daha fazla tutunmuş olduğunu tahmin ediyoruz.

I also have a surprise for you. The onion seeds we buried in the edges of our garden have grown a lot and we have started to harvest. This onion bunch was our first crop from the garden. I leave this photo here as a good memory for us.

Size bir de sürprizim var. Daha önce bahçemizin kenarlarına gömdüğümüz soğan tohumları epey büyüdü ve mahsul almaya başladık. Bu soğan demeti, bahçeden aldığımız ilk mahsul oldu. Bu fotoğrafı da bizim için güzel bir hatıra olarak buraya bırakıyorum.
