Mowing the grass

In the region where I live, the grass cutting season starts in the middle of summer. A few days ago, we completed the grass cutting process with the help of workers. After the grass cutting, there are the processes of stacking the grass, turning it into hay and transporting it. It will be some of the food that the cows and calves we feed will consume in the winter.

Tractors are not used in areas with trees or steep slopes. Since there are many areas in our field where a tractor cannot be used, we use a scythe to mow grass. Of course, the scythe also has its downsides. It is both more costly and a waste of time. If we had larger fields, we would probably prefer a tractor. Because grass starts to turn yellow over time and its nutritional value decreases.

After the grass is cut, it needs to dry in the sun for a while. Grass that does not dry will rot or will have difficulty turning into hay. Grass that is left to dry can be carried to another place by the wind. To prevent this, grass is placed on top of each other to form a hay pile.

This year's grass yield is not at the desired level. The reason for this is that it rained for days and the grass did not benefit from enough sunlight during that period. Strong winds caused the long grass to bend towards the ground. Such reasons seem to have reduced the grass yield. We also delayed grass cutting by 1 week. As the cutting period passes, the grass starts to turn yellow. It becomes more difficult to cut the yellow grass and the nutritional value of the grass gradually decreases.
