Namaste!
So now you know that I have been alone at home for the last few days. To be honest, the excitement of being alone at home is amazing and for a few days, you do all the things of your choice by roaming around the house like a loose bull. But this excitement and its fun last only for a few days and then the empty house starts to bite you because now after so many years of marriage, you have become used to being with someone and now you cannot stay alone and for how long will you enjoy eating outside, you do not hear anyone's voice for the whole day.
And then you call the person whom you wanted a small break from a few days ago and tell them how much you are missing them. But anyway, in my case that is also not possible because she has gone to her parents' house due to a medical emergency and I cannot put her under pressure by saying all that.
Now, this is one of those times when you know you can't change it, so instead of being sad and negative about it, it is better to try and be happy with it. And it's not that difficult for me to do that because, in the meantime, I can spend more time with my plants, watch Hangover, 3 Idiots and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Dobara² :D and the most exciting thing is to cook and eat Delicious Food. :P
Remember my harvested potatoes from a few days ago? Yesterday I thought of finally cooking something with them. First I was going to make Potato Capsicum but then I remembered that a friend @inuke here told me to make Potato Cauliflower or Potato Carrot with my harvested potatoes, so I kept the chopped capsicum in the refrigerator and cut carrots, tomatoes, green peas, onions, green chillies etc.
Let me make it clear beforehand that this is not a recipe blog. I am not a master chef, so do not try anything mentioned in this blog at home. 😄
No seriously, I never measure anything based on proportions. Although the food turns out great almost every time,😋 I swear I never measure the salt, chilli, coriander, garam masala, water, and even the vegetables.
I like spicy food and based on what I have seen my mother do since childhood, I first heated some oil in a pan and added cumin seeds (though I don't know its use) and after 1 minute added chopped onion and fried it for 2 minutes.
Then I added chopped tomatoes and green chillies and added salt, red chilli powder, dry coriander, garam masala, bay leaves, black cardamom and turmeric powder and roasted all this till the tomatoes became a little soft.
It took about 3 to 4 minutes, then I put all the vegetables together in the pan and mixed them well. And btw, I did all this on medium to low flame.
Since potatoes and carrots take time to cook, I added water without measuring it and covered it with a lid and left it to cook on low flame.
I don't remember exactly how much, but after some time when I removed the lid, it looked something like this. I tried pressing the potato with a ladle and it got mashed easily, which means, the vegetable is cooked well.
Now it was time for garnishing, so I took a lot of fresh coriander, cut it with the help of scissor, sprinkled it on the cooked vegetable and mixed it well.
After which this delicious beauty became like this! 😍
Now it was time to make roti to eat with it. To be honest, I don't know how to knead the dough, so I got my maid to knead the dough in the morning itself.
In the picture below you can see a stone board, a wooden rolling pin and a rolled roti.
This is the process of baking the roti on a hot pan. Yes, my roti do not turn out perfectly round and I also don't care about that. 😎✌️
After baking the roti well from both sides, we apply desi ghee to it and now it is completely ready to be served.
And to be honest, I don't know how but this time too, the food was very very tasty! :P
Well, now I will give you the explanation of 'I don't know how' so that you don't think that I am a fraud. 😅
- Since I didn't know how to peel potatoes and these potatoes were very small, I peeled them so thickly that I ended up wasting almost 30% of the potatoes.
- This dish which takes about 1 hour for my wife to cook, took me more than 3 hours.
- For seasoning, I added salt little by little 5 times, red chilli powder 3 times, turmeric powder 2 times and water 3 times.
- I removed the lid 4 times to check if the vegetable was cooked or not.
But as I told you, it was not that difficult for me because I like it!
So you know we can learn a lesson from all this too!
When something is happening in your life that you don't like but you also have no control over it, then instead of being sad while thinking about it, it is better to try to be happy and positive by doing things that make you happy. 😉🙏
