I wanted to share this new doodle I finished today with you guys. There is something so peaceful about drawing someone completely lost in their own world. I decided to sketch this woman having a quiet moment with her book she could be at a café or just relaxing at home after a good meal
I must admit, I spent quite a bit of time on her pants. It is actually inspired by real person wearing this pants or skirt with such a beautiful pattern. I wanted to try out some different patterns that are not necessarily similar with the reference just making sure they look alike. I love making these textures using my favorite digital brush in the PenUp app. I am still loving this loose lines that I had been doing recently on most of my doodles. You can see even on her glasses and that little bun have those shaky edges that I like so much. It really makes the character feel more real and approachable to me than if the lines were perfectly straight and digital looking.
I chose a very bold red for the background to make her stand out. After my previous accident where everything turned black, I’m getting much more comfortable picking strong colors on purpose. I think that the bright background helped give the sketch a different punchy vibe.
On the reference photo the woman is typing on her phone but I like to imagine that she is reading a very interesting mystery or maybe a book of poetry. Thank you for following along with my drawings as I keep practicing and learning more about this app every day
