Febrero, el mes más corto del año. Mes del amor, la amistad y de los carnavales. El día 02 de ese mes y del año 2018 me registraba en una naciente plataforma de blogging basada en tecnología blockchain. Desconocía todo lo que se puede desconocer sobre esta tecnología, hasta la manera correcta de escribirla: ¿blokchain? ¿Blokchein? ¿Blockchein? ¿Blockchainn? En fin, errores de ortografía inglesa propios de un hispano empeñado en usar anglicismos en vez de simplemente escribir "cadena de bloques".
Pero no solo era ignorante sobre esta tecnología y su correcta grafía, también lo era de esta plataforma que combinaba algo en lo que quería incursionar desde hace mucho tiempo que era el blogging o bitácora (escribir sobre tu vida, pensamientos y experiencias personales) sino que además prometía que podías ganar dinero con eso que publicaras. Y allí estuvo el gancho, con eso me cautivó, porque venía considerando con meses de antelación vivir de mi contenido, principalmente de mis escritos. Era mi sueño, hablando de manera exacta. Deseaba vivir de Internet y, Steemit, que así se llama la red social, me brindaba esa posibilidad.
Y confiando casi que ciegamente en esa promesa, inicio mi camino en el mundo de la creación de contenido sin ser muy consciente de ello y mucho menos de lo que, desde ese momento, sería mi vida por los próximos 5 años.
Desde que tuve mi primer contacto con Internet y supe que muchas personas viven de él, quise hacer lo mismo. Intenté infructuosamente iniciar blogs en la plataforma Blogger (propiedad de Google), pero no supe monetizar y tampoco tuve la constancia necesaria. Luego vinieron las redes sociales y en 2009 me registro en Facebook. Esa fue mi primera experiencia creando contenido en serio. Creé páginas y grupo de temas variados: motivación, religión, negocios, etc, los cuales me permitieron tomar experiencia en la gestión de contenido. Además pude hacerme de contactos valiosos y de a poco mi presencia en internet fue haciéndose más notoria y más amplia.
Las búsquedas en Google y demás buscadores como Bing, Ask, Yahoo, etc., arrojaban resultados de mi contenido cuando escribía mi nombre en ellos. Eso, aunque no era del todo consciente de su efecto, fue haciendo que fuera construyendo una presencia en internet, un poco paupérrima, pero que al fin de cuenta era importante.
Como dije más arriba, por mucho tiempo quise vivir de internet, monetizar mi trabajo, especialmente mis escritos. Aunque no pude ni supe cómo lograr ese objetivo, casi sin darme cuenta fui formando un rastro digital y virtual en la red de redes que se puede ver colocando palabras claves como:

- Gary Voz Marca
- Gary Bilbao
- gary comunicamejor
- gary antidepresion
Y eso lo logré al tener cuenta en muchas redes sociales, al menos las más usadas (abajo verás el enlace para que me visites, si gustas, aunque en algunas ya dejé de publicar). Y aunque tal vez hoy no tengo presencia en internet tanto como quisiera, en el sentido de que me falta mi página web, que es una de mis deudas conmigo mismo, como les dije, mi nombre y mi contenido aparece en los buscadores y eso es un punto a favor.
Valieron de algo estos 5 años. Los resultados son visibles y verificables. Tengo presencia en Internet. Hay enlaces por toda la web que pueden hacer que personas me contacten y hagamos negocios o alianzas. Mi contenido está haciendo su efecto en otros que lo leen o escuchan. Repito, valió la pena, estos 5 años no fueron en vano. Ahora me toca salir al mundo real y retomar actividades más presenciales.
No quiere decir que voy a dejar las redes sociales, no quiere decir que voy a dejar de publicar. Pero definitivamente no va a ser mi prioridad en lo absoluto, va a ser mi mi opción secundaria. Pero cuando haga una actividad presencial enviaré a los asistentes a mis redes sociales o blogs y podremos seguir en contacto o podrán ver más de mi trabajo.
El inicio de mi travesía digital ha dado resultado y hoy los cosecho. Dando otros pasos, sin dejar de cultivar mi presencia en internet, seguiré avanzando en el cumplimiento de mi propósito de vida (ikigai): motivar, inspirar y reflexionar a otros con mis palabras.

But not only was I ignorant about this technology and its correct spelling, I was also ignorant about this platform that combined something I had wanted to dabble in for a long time, which was blogging (writing about your life, thoughts and personal experiences), but also promised that you could earn money with what you published. And there was the hook, with that I was captivated, because I had been considering months in advance to live from my content, mainly from my writings. It was my dream, exactly speaking. I wanted to live off the Internet and Steemit, which is the name of the social network, gave me that possibility.
And trusting almost blindly in that promise I start my way in the world of content creation without being very aware of it and much less of what, from that moment on, would be my life for the next 5 years.
Ever since I had my first contact with the Internet and learned that many people make a living from it, I wanted to do the same. I tried unsuccessfully to start blogs on the Blogger platform (owned by Google), but I didn't know how to monetize and I didn't have the necessary constancy either. Then came social networks and in 2009 I registered in Facebook. That was my first experience creating serious content. I created pages and groups on various topics: motivation, religion, business, etc, which allowed me to gain experience in content management. I was also able to make valuable contacts and little by little my presence on the internet became more noticeable and wider.
Searches in Google and other search engines such as Bing, Ask, Yahoo, etc., returned results of my content when I typed my name in them. That, although I was not fully aware of its effect, was making me build a presence on the Internet, a little poor, but at the end of the day it was important.
As I said above, for a long time I wanted to live off the Internet, to monetize my work, especially my writings. Although I could not and did not know how to achieve that goal, almost without realizing it, I was forming a digital and virtual trail in the network of networks that can be seen by placing keywords like:

And I achieved that by having an account in many social networks, at least the most used ones (below you will see the link for you to visit me, if you like, although I stopped posting in some of them). And although maybe today I don't have as much presence on the internet as I would like, in the sense that I lack my web page, which is one of my debts with myself, as I told you, my name and my content appears in search engines and that is a plus.
These 5 years were worth something. The results are visible and verifiable. I have a presence on the Internet. There are links all over the web that can make people contact me and make business or alliances. My content is having an effect on others who read or listen to it. I repeat, it was worth it, these 5 years were not in vain. Now it's my turn to go out into the real world and resume more face-to-face activities.
It doesn't mean I'm going to quit social media, it doesn't mean I'm going to stop posting. But it's definitely not going to be my priority at all, it's going to be my secondary option. But when I do a face-to-face activity I will send attendees to my social networks or blogs and we can keep in touch or they can see more of my work.
The beginning of my digital journey has given results and today I reap them. Dando otros pasos, sin dejar de cultivar mi presencia en internet, seguiré avanzando en el cumplimiento de mi propósito de vida (ikigai): motivar, inspirar y reflexionar a otros con mis palabras.

It is an interesting journey @gsbilbao and in many ways it is similar to mine, so I can say that as a whole it represents a constant work and yes, you definitely have to prioritize.
