Yes, it isn't just a lack of knowledge that we are combating here, but a lot of misinformation is out there as well. Many new diabetics often feel guilty that it was something that they did or didn't do in their lives that brought on the disease. There is a huge stigma attached to being overweight, for instance, or eating a lot of "junk" food. However, those can just be minor contributing factors towards a diagnosis of diabetes. Another factor is genetics - if you have a family member with the disease, then you are more likely to get it yourself! No "blame games" or "guilt trips" involved.

Exactly, this is so true, growing up, I was always told that sugar was the cause of diabetes and I was so scared of it.
