Indochina Mekong Hash 2023 date has been CHANGED

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY11 months ago

The Indochina Mekong Hash is an annual event that one city hosts each year. It is an absolutely massive event that is a ton of fun and a great way to meet fellow Hashers from all around South East Asia and beyond. Many of the people that attend are from far away from here and just love the Hash even more than we do. Every year we have people that travel from around the world to attend, and it is so popular that we have to limit the amount of people that are allowed to attend. We hosted it in Chiang Mai a few years back and had to limit the number of attendees to 500, which was still a difficult amount of people to manage.

We did manage though, and I am sure that they will do the same in Da Lat, Vietnam as well.

The events are so well attended that often it attracts sponsors and with all of the ones that I have been to, include a massive gala event at the end. It covers multiple days and involves many different Hash runs that are meticulously planned out by the hosting Hash Chapter. We spent more than a month planning ours here in Chiang Mai, and I am sure they will do the same in Vietnam.

While the event was already planned and notices were sent out, we needed to change the date to a week earlier in order to avoid clashing with another running event that is taking place in the same area that we had planned. We spoke with the conflicting people and while everything was amicable, they were doing a far larger event and we thought it would be courteous to just allow them to keep their dates.

There was also the question of DaLat not being a very big place and if we bring in 5 to 6 hundred visitors and the other group brings in a thousand, we might find ourselves in a situation where there isn't enough accommodation to serve everyone. This would be a disaster and we thought it best to simply change the event date. It's still a long ways into the future and people generally don't register right away, so there are probably only a handful of people whose travel plans will be inconvenienced by this.

You do not need to be a seasoned Hasher in order to attend this event but I don't think that a massive meetup like this is a good place for a "virgin" (someone that has never Hashed before) to start their journey. It would be better to learn the ropes at a HHH chapter near you before trying to attend one of our global events.

Registration opened up on the 25th of March and more details will come. There is some information, and of course links to all of our local upcoming events on our official website.

ON ON!

Thanks for bringing this up. Lemme check with the home minister a.k.a finance minister a.k.a transport minister a.k.a tourism minister a.k.a the boss if we can make an arrangement to visit. Will be fun to try an oversea hash of a life time. The only hash we had overseas was back in 2018, we got lost in a Korea jungle for a 4 hours hash, with absolutely no gear, and full tourist outfit 🤣

well if you can make it guarantee you have fun. I bet we will have a load of KL people there anyway since KL is the very first HHH that ever existed. Those guys go to almost every interhash in the world. A few of them even went to one that took place in Antarctica.

The accommodation thing I can see being a problem and why you had to change dates. Normally you know of other events well in advance so this must be a very rare incident.

well we wouldn't have known if it hadn't been for one of the locals telling us about it. It would have been an absolute disaster had we turned up and didn't know that there was another huge event taking place. Since they were a larger group than us we just decided to let them have it rather than fight with them over it.
