The day came when we have to leave Southern Spain. Our friend came to pick us up from our house at 11:30 AM, the flight would have been at 1:20 PM. It tooks us about 45 Minutes to Malaga Airport.
The day before, I got an email from Swiss confirming the flight and I was supposed to check-in online with óur baggages to be dropped-off at their counter at the airport. I checked -in online but I did not get our boarding pass. So I thought to have the seats reserved. When I came to the counter I asked for the boarding pass and she gave me only for Malaga-Zürich.. I complained because we have a connecting flight Zürich - Vienna. The ground personnel said the flight Zürich-Vienna was cancelled on that day. I checked my email and they did not inform us of the flight cancellation. Our two baggages were almost through to pass the conveyor with the label, she took them back and said that I have to go to their Groundforce personnel to find a flight going to Vienna.
Swiss is part of the Star Alliance which includes Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airways. The lady at the Groundforce searched for a flight but we would have to wait because the plane was leaving only 1.5 hours later. We took the flight and got our boarding pass at the Brussel Airways counter where we dropped -off our baggage... I had to ask for assistance to the gate because my husband has a leg issue and couldn´t walk that far to the gate. So the caddy took us to the gate and everything went smoothly, but the plane´s departure was delayed by about 15 minutes.
We were seated almost at the back of the plane that was full. But we disembarked as third batch. It was raining in Brussels, and of course our plane from Malaga arrived late. Our connecting flight was about 7:05 PM and we were supposed to be at the gate before embarkment began at six thirty PM, glad we were already checked-in while in Malaga for the connecting flight to Vienna, so they have to wait for us at any rate.
The assistant was already waiting for us at the door of the plane to get us to the other end of the Airport for our departure gate. I was so thankful that the assistance came and the guy immediately took us to our gate where the pilots were already waiting for our embarkment. We were late by almost 10 minutes but we made it and the plane taxied from the strip of Brussels Airport. I am glad that I was able to organize our assistance at Malaga Airport, at Brussels International and Vienna International.
Nothing was lost and our baggages arrived fine too, the airport guy also waited for us with his caddy to bring us to the car hire+driver..We informed the reserved car's office about the change of the flight, that one too, went smoothly. We came home after about 9:30 PM and we were dead tired. We slumbered into the bed because the event in Malaga caused us so much stress.
How about you, did you experience such happenings in your flights somewhere...did you get stranded at the airport?!
Lucky me, have not experienced such a thing, mainly because there is a direct flight from Los Angeles to Manila.
Yeah. lucky you indeed! I worked for Delta Airlines sometime early 90´s and we had this rule that if we ever fly in our company´s plane, we should be properly dressed (office like). The men (even non-employee or companion) were required to wear coat and tie particularly if we were seated in the business class. The flight from Frankfurt had been ok, but the return flight from Miami to Europe (we had a vacay in the U.S. Virgin Islands) had been stressful. Hubby wore only a jacket but with a tie. The Supervisor told me, how come he wasn´t wearing an office coat and tie and said that it was not acceptable to wear a leisure jacket on the flight, I should have known this as a Delta employee. And she said "go downstairs and look for your checked-in luggage and get that coat or you´re not getting in that plane!" Oh my, thank God, Delta has it´s own separate area at the Airport. We found the luggage right away, opened it fast and got hubby´s coat. And we were able to fly then. Lols, I´ll never forget that experience.
Sometimes journeying in the face of this planet can be exciting and annoying, been there before I was 15 hours stranded in Cairo and that was a total blow for me waiting for the next long haul and yeah, by the time you're out of that capsule you have to choose the sleep between food, lol!
That is the most annoying thing if one is stranded. Our plane was once stranded I think in Bangkok, because something went wrong with the turbine, they had to wait for a spare part and we waited and waited . They did not let us disembark because the spare part might have arrived and it could have only delayed the flight more. Of course, they didn´t let us know beforehand what the trouble was not to cause panic. After about 6 hours, we started heading for Europe.
I never been late or have that kind of travel. Good that you manage it all.

Glad you still manage a smooth flight then po..but still a tiring trip.
My experience was last July, our flight was already cancelled but in a short of time we got rebooked the same day & got a rush travel going to the airport, like chasing the time literaly. Then upon checking-in, the officer said that my 4th child could not be on the flight because the documents were lacking. I insist to the officer if he will be left here no one will take care to him, I super begged hahha. Glad the officer listened to me 🥰 but in the next future flight I should bring a complete documents 😁
Oh good too that you managed everything. Yeah, docs are always needed and if the person checking the docs is not in a good mood, you might not be able to take the chance to fly.

What a tiring journey on your part. I can relate the tiredness especially at our age, super young ahahaha but at least overall you made it.
