LANTERN FEST + MARKET + COTTON CANDY (+ VLOG)

Yay! Back at it again with the video creation. It's been a while! This time, started with this special event that happens once a year during the November full moon. Loy Krathong Festival or Lantern Festival here in Chiang Mai. ** Feel free to subscribe, like and comment for more Thai food and culture <3

Loy Krathong / Lantern Festival

A festival that we show respect to the water god. Put negativities and all the bad stuff into the flower basket and lantern then let it all go! That's pretty much the shorter version of how to explain it.

Normally happens during November full moon. Another name for this festival is Yee Peng

Yee means The month of November
Peng means full moon in northern Thai language

Now it all kinda makes sense!

Loy Krathong fest at Khlong Mae Kha

Khlong Mae Kha or Mae Kha canal located in Chiang Mai city. It's a new Chiang Mai landmark and this is my first time coming here. Good timing too that I picked to come during the festival because it's all super pretty! All decorated with colorful lanterns and lights. Food and drinks along both sides of the canals.

Normally you would have to put the flower basket onto the water but now that the water is much lower from where we were, they even provide a slider for you to have the basket slid to the water smoothly. I think that was so cool! I have never seen one like this or I just don't go to Loy Krathong fest enough.

The old school dance was so awesome too! We don't see this often no more so I really appreciate they have it all here at this Lantern Fest at Khlong Mae Kha. Check out the dance in the video above!

Old School Cotton Candy

I always love cotton candy since I was a kid. Love it a little less now because I tried to avoid that much of sugar in one load but still, this is pretty awesome to see they doing it just right there in front of you when you order so f* it, I went for one for $1 !

Also have it filmed here to show how they make it. Easy, peasy, pretty and yummy!

So much fun! Totally enjoying the fest so far. There's another epic one coming with all the sky lanterns at Doi Saket, Chiang Mai. Can't wait to show all of that with all you Hivers here!

I've been in Thailand twice whilst Loy Kratong festival was on. It's such a lovely festival and great to watch all the preparations during the day when the flower offerings are being made.

I so love cotton candy, even my child. I haven't experienced lantern festival. I am sure it is fun.

That is a monster cloud you have there. I've only seen cotton candy in Cambodian a handful of times, but the process is no less mesmerizing to watch than when I was a kid.
