Monomad: True Green Colonel

Here are some macro shots I've submitted for the daily #monomad challenge, which is hosted and curated by @monochromes.

Oplodontha viridula is a member of the soldier fly clan. Given that it goes by the interesting moniker "common green colonel," this species of fly is not just an ordinary one. "Colonel"? Wow! In the military, it was the rank of an officer who often commanded a sizable army division.

Furthermore, might it have commanded a division of the soldier flies within its clan? Could it be so? However, given that it is the common name given to it by entomologists, it is certain that it is not mere bullshit.

That proboscis is amazing! It appeared more like a snuff pipe. With that, it appeared to be a true colonel.

All of the images here are my own work, taken with Xiaomi POCO NFC smartphone and an assembled external macro lens.
