What I really need is a time machine. Not for anything nefarious, I just want to go into the future to read the history books and laugh at everything they get wrong. Was reading recently that somebody had had the bright idea to DNA test some of the remains found in Pompeii and promptly discovered that the 'historical record' is full of assumptions and most of them are wrong. Which isn't exactly news.
Once upon a time, this first photo was the entrance to the Sears store at the Jefferson Mall. For a while there Sears was the largest retailer in the United States but those days are history and this store closed years ago. Not sure when they blocked it up but it caught my eye, a dead end in more ways than one. Made me think of old Roman buildings and wonder how shopping malls would be interpreted and explained when they were as old as the Colosseum.
Anybody want to buy a mall? Mid City Mall, a glorious relic of yesteryear that has been doddering along in the Highlands since I moved here in 2004, just went up for sale. This photo was from earlier in the year, when I managed to catch a dollar store in the process of disappearing from there.
Oh deer. This thing was supposed to have a theme but it seems to have went for a hike in the park. Anybody else live in a city with a resident free range deer population?
*Come for the person walking and phoning at the same time, stay for the tankers of "edible lard for further processing." If you could smell this photo, you'd never want to eat any of the food that come from that factory. Does anyone know if there's still time to sue the Jetsons for false advertising? They promised us flying cars but all we got was processed food.
There's nothing like rush hour traffic to make for a captive audience to hawk flowers. If commuting were to become a thing of the past I wouldn't shed a tear but we're in no danger of that just yet. Probably will happen about the time we start trusting computers more than humans when it comes to driving.
STOP. Go directly to bed, do not pass the bowl, do not escape from jail. Never argue with a crossing guard, they'll stand in the middle of a busy boulevard with nothing but a red talisman to ward off traffic.
I'll admit to reading clock as cock. Had to read it twice.
Lol! I wasn't going for a double entendre necessarily but I'll take credit for it :D
The Spokane Valley Mall seems to be managing to hold on, but I haven't been to the Northtown Mall in ages, and I feel no real urge to go see what's up. It seems like malls are soon doomed to be a thing remembered only by GenX and Millennials as a cornerstone of commerce. I wonder if any will be repurposed as factories and warehouses? The locations are less than ideal, but they have space. Maybe schools could use them as classroom space gets cramped in growing cities.
When I was taking these earlier this year, I was surprised by how well the Jefferson Mall seemed to be doing. Lol, I'm sure the boomers already blame us for killing them but I won't shed no tears over their passing. From the occasional new story that I've happened across, it seems turning them into mixed use spaces with housing and such is the current thing they're attempting with them. I've never been able to get past the artificialness of the places, don't know why anybody would want to live in one but it seems like that's the way they're going with them.
When the mall in Richmond, Kentucky closed for good that National Guard ended up taking it over for use as a depot/base.
Thank you!
Thank ya kindly.
