Every summer, like clockwork, the Rye Carnival pops up on the foreshore, lighting up the night and drawing crowds from all over. It’s been running for 70 years—yep, 70! That’s generations of families lining up for fairy floss, spinning on the Ferris wheel, and screaming their lungs out on rides that look like they defy the laws of gravity. The photos don’t quite do the vibe justice, but if you’ve been, you know it’s all about the sounds, the lights, and the salty breeze rolling in from the ocean.
The Ferris Wheel’s Glow
The first photo captures the iconic Ferris wheel, standing tall against the twilight sky. It’s like the carnival’s lighthouse, drawing you in from miles away. Black and white gives it a kind of nostalgic vibe, but trust me, when you’re there, it’s bursting with colour and movement. The carriages swinging gently in the breeze while the lights blink in patterns—it’s pure magic. For a few minutes, as you’re spinning at the top, you get this cracking view of the ocean and the whole carnival below.
All the Action
The second pic shows the mix of rides—big, bold, and a little bit bonkers. That pirate ship? It’s a classic, and it’s the one ride that has everyone either laughing or clutching their stomachs (sometimes both in my case). The Ferris wheel looms behind it like a big, calm giant, watching over the chaos. At night, everything’s lit up like a Christmas tree, and the air’s full of the sounds of excited kids, dodgem cars crashing, and the faint hum of generators powering it all.
A Tree with a Story
In the third shot, there’s this massive old tree right in the middle of it all, standing proud and steady as the carnival buzzes around it. The moon’s peeking through the sky, adding a bit of calm to the madness. You can just imagine that tree’s seen it all over the years—kids running around, first dates on the Ferris wheel, and families making memories they’ll talk about for decades. It’s like a quiet witness to 70 years of summer fun.
Such an old tree has seen a long journey of history. Very impressive photos.
Thanks for much for the kind words!
No force on earth could make me go on one of those rides, but the BnW images are captivating:)
