Monomad ~ Street Photography

Welcome to another small collection of photos from the monochrome streets of Victoria, BC.

It has taken me a long time to work up the nerve to take street photos where you can see the subjects face. Most of my earlier photos showed someone's back as they were walking away.

Now that I've started getting a little closer, I often find someone in the photo is staring straight back at me... like in the photo above. I like that...

I realize you probably can't see that level of detail here, but in most of these photos, someone is locking eyes with me... they see me!

There is often a look of suspicion in their eyes. Why are you taking my photo?

I took all these photos with a short prime lens, not a long zoom. It helps make me, and hopefully, the viewer, feel they are in the scene.

I'm not there yet. What I really want is a more wide-angle lens, and then get closer to the people. That will require a little more nerve!
