Debbie's birthday photos this year were sort of a miracle. A miracle because it wouldn't have happened. Debbie felt nonchalant about taking photos for her birthday this year. It took an intervention for us to do something this year. And while our plans almost tanked last minute, I'm glad we were able to do something.
The results from Debbie's birthday photo was one of my highpoints this year in terms of portrait photography. I loved what I was able to create and I'm glad people loved it too.
While we had opted for something casual and straightforward initially, a slight delay in my strobe's recycle time created something so good that I had to build on. While shooting, my strobe refused to fire, leaving only the continuous light I had as fill light on. The photo I got was so good that I deliberately turned my strobe off, got a fog machine and we created these beauty.
These are the results of Debbie's photoshoot in monochrome. As much as the colred version was amazing. I feel this black and white version really highlights how incredible the lighting was. It's crazy how something this beautiful could come out from a slight mishap. Such is the blessing that can sometimes emerge from our misfortunes.

I think the control of the light and the staging is excellent, but there is one thing that I think is excessive: you have made an excessive use of softening filters. The look of the model's skin is unnatural, it doesn't correspond to any real skin.
I beg your pardon if I'm too critical, but I see that a great job is spoiled by trying to make the model look unreal.

I'm referring to the skin smoothing that is done in post-processing. You can clearly see that the treatment was done on the skin of the model. Probably a frequency separator.
My response won't change. Again, you think it's smooth because you are seeing a compressed image and the details of the skin are lost. I hope you understand?
