Is photography really an art when it captures reality?-MONOMAD CHALLENGE (ENG-ESP)

For some people, photography is an art. I do not intend to counter this perception, although I do not appreciate it in the same way. This is because, for me, it is an aesthetic and narrative record of reality. I try to apply this principle to every image I compose, regardless of whether they are artistic or not.

With this idea in mind, I went to take pictures of a flamenco school for girls and teenagers, who at first were a bit nervous. Some of them told me that it was the first time they were photographed "by a professional photographer".

I walked around the school several times, looking for ideal angles, while the girls were getting ready. Some were watching me, others were beginning to concentrate, and I began to record the process.

As soon as the music played, they were all transformed. The shyness vanished completely, and it was the ideal moment to capture it.

When art is shown through photography it can be a symbiosis, because the visual element seeks to make attractive what is already so by nature, as is the artistic expression in this case, but resorting to the registration of the ideal moment, as a gesture, or an exact movement that makes the photo "perfect".

Beyond determining whether it is art or not, the important thing for me when I intend to make a photographic composition is to bring together the elements that I think are convenient for the construction of a message without altering reality, but turning it into an aesthetic product.

Para algunos la fotografía es un arte. No pretendo contrarrestar esta percepción pese a que no la aprecio del mismo modo. Esto se debe a que, para mí, es un registro estético y narrativo de la realidad. Trato de aplicar este principio en cada imagen.

Con esta idea fui a tomar fotografías de una escuela de flamenco para niñas y adolescentes, quienes al principio estaban un poco nerviosas. Algunas me dijeron que era la primera vez que eran fotografiadas “por un fotógrafo profesional”.

Di varias vueltas por la escuela, buscando ángulos ideales, mientras las muchachas se preparaban. Unas me veían, otras ya comenzaban a concentrarse, y comencé a registrar ese proceso.

Apenas sonó la música, todas se transformaron. La timidez se esfumó por completo, siendo el momento ideal para capturarlo.

Cuando el arte es mostrado a través de la fotografía puede ser una simbiosis, porque el elemento visual busca hacer atractivo lo que ya es así por naturaleza, como lo es la expresión artística en este caso, pero recurriendo al registro del momento ideal, como un gesto, o un movimiento exacto que hace la foto “perfecta”.

Más allá de determinar si es un arte o no, lo importante para mí cuando pretendo realizar una composición fotográfica es reunir los elementos que creo convenientes para la construcción de un mensaje sin alterar la realidad, pero convirtiéndola en un producto estético.
