Hail to the Hive!

Yesterday, before moving the boat, I wandered down to see if there was space at the other City Centre moorings, and there was.

So I went back to get Badger the Narrowboat to move her. As I was untying the lines a big working boat with crane on it chugged past. I didn’t lay it much mind as I assumed they were headed somewhere to use the crane.

5 minutes later as I arrived at the mooring spot, there it sat. Huge and in the way and in my spot!

I smiled waved and laughed as I spoke to the guys on the workboat and said in a friendly manner “ you buggers I had just walked down to check this spot was free and you’ve jumped in my grave”

They laughed and apologised but said I was free to moor alongside them if I wanted. They said it’s very stable with lots of walkway around it.

I slowly turned Badger the Narrowboat around and put her alongside the big workboat, jumped off and tied her up.

Stepping off onto the walkways that surround the workboat I was surprised at how solid she felt with literally no movement. More stable than the floating pontoons in fact.

Even though a space has now become available on the pontoon I am going to stay here over the weekend as I actually quite like it and find it no hinderance whatsoever.

It’s kinda cool actually like our own private wharf. I like it. If I’d known it would feel as secure as this it would have been my preferred option, as long as they’re not using it of course as that might not be as peaceful.

Plus it’s always nice doing something a little different.
