It's An Eclipse, Not The Apocalypse

I got to do something today that I have never done in my over 40 years on the planet....

I saw a partial eclipse with my own eyes. O.K., I wore protective glasses and all, but this was the first time I actually saw the moon take a bite out of Ol' Sol.

It was pretty cool I have to admit. I mean, yeah it looked like every picture you have ever seen of a partial eclipse, but today's what special for me, because again...I actually got to see it.

Living in Western Canada, I only got about 20% of the spectacle though, as we weren't in the path of totality but alas, it was a pretty cool moment.

And that's what made my head scratch leading up to this afternoon....

If you read the news, the social media sites, the blogs, people seemed to be thinking this was the end of the world or something. I heard every possible scenario about how today was the end of times but I was just baffled by it all....

Now I get it, people have theories and there's lots of shady stuff that happens in the world. But an eclipse doesn't mean Jesus is coming today. Newsflash, we've had these things before ;)

And specifically to Christians, we should know better. Yeah, signs of the times but guess what, there's a lot more bigger fish to fry when it comes to end time prophecy than....An eclipse.

Sometimes I think a lot of this stuff gets media coverage on purpose, to keep our eyes off Jesus and literally...To the skies above. Seems like a contradiction right? Doesn't Jesus come down from heaven and all?

Absolutely.

However this isn't what the bible says will happen, or in the order it's going to. I was listening to a fascinating talk about the difference between futurism, preterism and historicism this morning when it comes to bible prophecy and it was incredible.

Now I'm a Seventh Day Adventist, so I believe in historicism as the proper way to view Christian eschatology so I'm a little biased lol Meaning, I knew today wasn't the end of the world. That's not how the bible said things would come to an end.

And that's really I guess what faith is....Believing in your heart, something is fact even though, we may not have all the answers. And I'm not really here to argue with who is right or wrong, that's between God and you. However, today I was able to really enjoy the celestial event so many did while being completely at peace knowing...This wasn't the end.

Random thoughts on a Monday evening...I hope you did get a chance to check out the eclipse and this incredible universe that our Creator made.

When's the next one?

When's the next one?

Greenland, Iceland, Spain, and Russia in 2026.

Canada and northern U.S. in 2044.

Most of U.S. in 2045.

Personal note: my dad’s house was less than 2 miles from the line of max totality in 2017. My 4 youngest kids and I were able to be there to observe the total eclipse (lasted about 1.5 minutes). It was surreal. God was gracious to us. When we woke up the morning of, the sky was completely overcast. However, about 15 minutes before totality the clouds opened up and we could see it clearly. About 15 minutes after totality, the clouds closed up.

The location of our current house is about 3 miles from max totality for the 2045 eclipse. Totality then will last more than 5 minutes. We’ve lived in this house for 21 years. Will we still be here 21 years from now? Who knows.

That's pretty cool to hear. We weren't in the path of totality, but my kids (God willing me as well) will be around in 2044 to see it again.

I didn't have any protective glasses so I didn't bother looking at it. However, the conspiracy theories are definitely there. I saw quite a few people talking about it. I am glad you got to see it though.

It was pretty cool. That being said, it looks just like any picture you have ever seen lol

Congratulations on the mile stone at life. Looks like the world has a bunch of firsts and many wonders. I wish my country experienced too , sadly this year wasn’t ours.

Happens all the time, I'm sure your country will get one soon!

That eclipse wasn't in my path but I'm glad you were able to enjoy it.

It was a fun time for sure!

I saw something that said an eclipse happens every 18 months. It just happens in different parts of the world or where no one sees it. This eclipse wasn't any more special than any of the other ones. Except for the fact that it went right over half the US.

Yeah exactly, people lose their minds cause it went over North America. lol

In my country you could not see the eclipse, I am very glad you were able to see it, even if only partially.

!HH

Yeah only like 20-25% for us here.

Didn't observe it and no one in my environment talked about it meaning it wasn't visible here. It must have really been fascinating.
When you study your Bible well, there are arguments you just don't involve yourself.

Read your bible and pray every day is how the song goes :)

Well, I didn’t get to see it but I wish I did. Thanks for chipping in the word of God into the post

Yeah any time I can, I try to slide God into the conversation ;)

I was listening to a fascinating talk about the difference between futurism, preterism and historicism this morning when it comes to bible prophecy and it was incredible.

Can you give a link if this talk happens to be available somewhere? Would appreciate it.
Thank you.
