Brownies, Fresh From the Developer

Medium format is my favorite format. There is something special about giant negatives, and when color is added the results are even better! When I saw that Kodak Gold 200 was available in 120 I jumped on it and decided to try it out in as many cameras as I could.

These are a few shots from the Brownie Hawkeye. I realized after scanning that this is only the second roll I have put through it. The Hawkeye is made for 620 film so I had to modify the 120 spool a bit with finger nail clippers to fit it into the camera. Not a big deal, but I did notice some tears on the paper after loading the film onto the reel. I don't know if I did that while trimming it or if it got caught up in the camera.

It's a camera that gets noticed because of its age, but compared to Yashica Mat and the Super Ikonta it's nothing special as far as image quality goes. The only advantage over the Yashica is the ability to take double and triple exposures.

You may have noticed that I take a lot of photos of the local cemetery. I don't think it's morbid, it's almost cliché. I always like finding new monuments that I haven't seen before. This one is especially humorous to me:

Jesus calling His dogs

The next camera I try will be one of my oldest, a 1920's Brownie 6x9. I've only used it once so it should be fun. I can't wait to see those massive negatives!

Camera: Kodak Brownie Hawkeye
Film: Kodak Gold 200
Developed in Cinestill C-41 and scanned with the Epson V600.
