Let's go on with part 2 of my three days alternative trip to Malta.
After having breakfast and doing some shopping at the supermarket I went to the beach, specifically to Ta' Kalanka, the southeastern tip of the island. Beautiful sea, cold water that helped me wake up, ready to return to the festival reinvigorated.
Got there in my summer beach outfit because they were doing a pool party! Do you imagine being by the pool, drinking a beer and listening to an EBM Industrial dj set? Never thought in my life to participate in such activity ahaha
It's time to get in! Here's the lineup for this second day:
I have to be honest, I didn't know anyone on this list 😅 In fact I started listening to most of the bands of this festival a couple weeks before going.
I managed to watch Synth Attack just a bit before going to the pool party and then saw the second half of Aesthetic Perfection's show. Good music for sure, great stage presence but nothing too memorable for me.
I really enjoyed Solitary Experiments though.
Solitary experiments are a German synthpop electro band formed in the 90s with a good amount of releases throughout the last two decades. I think we could say they are an establishment in the future pop genre.
I really love their dreamy synth sounds, much inspired by 80s analog synths but with a modern twist. I found their composition skills very appealing. They write very good melodic songs for a mainstream audience but also more aggressive industrial tracks to dance hard to. They're one of my favorite acts of the whole festival.
But now it's time for the peak of this Saturday night: Nachtmahr
I know I heard some Nachtmahr songs in some EBM dj sets I attended in the past but when you listen to songs during dj sets you maybe don't know the name of the artist you're listening to. So it was a big surprise for me to listen to these songs live and recognize who plays them!

Tanzdiktator is their most famous and recognizable song for sure, followed by Feuer Frei and one of my favorite and fun to listen to, Chupacabra.
Nachtmahr is pure industrial energy, real teutonic electronic tanz power. It's been so much fun to dance to their music, everybody was excited and pumped up!
And they also have two girls in uniform doing their things on the stage to make the show... hotter 😏🔥
And finally the headliners: Front Line Assembly
They were the band I was most looking forward to seeing, because I know they are a historical band in the synth industrial scene. I had high expectations that were a little bit unfulfilled because they didn't come up with a very catchy show. But taking away the visual part, the sound was really very interesting, intriguing and inspiring. One of the musicians showed up with a small modular synth, with all the cables connected to it rising above the machine, playing that thing live, I was watching him with my mouth open!
I liked a lot their punk attitude on the stage. Very satisfying.
The night went on with an after party dj set and I danced 'til 2 AM before going back to my Airbnb. Gosh, what a night!
See you next time for part 3 ☠️
