Why Do You Need To Be A "Reply Guy"?

So I checked out @HiveCreators' #HiveRecap2024, and I honestly think it is an innovative idea. The creators are probably aware that people will use stats to boost their "new year, new me" posts. Hive users want to know how they did after a month, three, six, and even a year.

So, they anticipated this hunger for stats, and here you have it. Another reason I like it is that it is practical and, depending on demand, it is similar to selling cold water or juice near a hot area where sporting activities are held.

So, I don't think anyone on Hive will not be tempted to try this out, just like I said, people just wants to know how far they've come, how well they've done.

So I checked and saw that I had made over 6k comments and was wondering how I did it, but then I checked 6025 comments in 366 days and it was only about 17 comments per day, which includes both replies and comments, so after looking at that, I would say it is more like me.

In fact, after checking that metric, I still feel like I underperformed, but I believe I understand why. The first half of 2024 was difficult for my mental health and reduced my overall productivity, which is why I believe 70% of that 6k was completed 4 to 5 months before the end of the year.

I was consistently pulling over 30 comments per day during the first and second years of Hive. Being a reply guy was fun, and a lot of people did that quite well, I think they only problem was that they just gassed out and eventually didn't continue.

Some people believe that constantly posting is the real deal, but they have failed to be a regular user, be a friend to another person, listen, have a sense of humor, and simply enter into mutual contracts with other users.

I have answered or replied to more Whatsapp and Discord messages than I have made or responded to comments, and these are from people I have met here. A lot happens behind closed doors, and people text and make contacts while doing other things, demonstrating how conversations on Hive can become multidimensional.

People (smartly) deviate from what they read, saying entirely different things than what they have read, and they do so exceptionally well.

Nowadays, you can easily read or vote on someone is post based on their sense of humor or something. Some people lack a sense of humor, and it can be difficult to maintain a rapport with them.

Being on Hive is incredibly dynamic.

There is so much to learn: how to respond, react, behave, strategize, and so much more. So because it takes so long to work, it feels as if you are doing nothing. Being on Hive is a marathon, and if you are a sprinter, you will have to make a lot of adjustments, which may feel like "too much effort for less" on the surface.

Being the reply guy matters more.

Sometimes you just want to let it go, but the numbers you put in will accumulate and become meaningful over time. Hive powerfully compounds everything, not just upvotes.

When you realize how to truly use Hive and are fortunate enough for the other factors to work in your favor, you will have successfully figured it out.

Of course, the other stats are important, and it is nice to see a comprehensive breakdown of everything "me" in this rundown.

There is no two ways about it: you have to play the long game, consistently putting in the numbers and allowing them to accumulate.

Obviously, I understand that it relies heavily on luck and that things must work, but I would like to know where you do not have to rely on luck even when it appears that you have done everything correctly.

A lot of people will get lucky, this time and this year, and it is because they have spent so much time being "the reply guy."

I think your stats are stunning, you did over 9k and that's truly astonishing. Means you do over 20 comments in a day. That's good.

Stats are important and they provide great insight into how you are doing. I wanted to use Hive Recap as well, but didn't like that I have to authenticate to it. I don't see any reason for that with some stats app.

You mean you didn't like using Keychain for the authentication?

I mean I shouldn't even need to authenticate to such an application. It should simply give me an input to put my "username" and after that display the stats for it. We should authenticate to apps that we are doing actions upon like commit transactions to the blockchain, but this is not the case.

Truly, I think we shouldn't need to authenticate, but most of these stuffs on keychain requires authentication. Just probably a few. I think Hivestats doesn't require and that's what makes it better.

I agree, the best way to grow on Hive is to be a reply guy. In the last year I had my ups and downs on commenting and replying, and I'm focusing more on it now than I used to. Taking the time to make each reply personal and meaningful is important as well. The only way to grow here is the long game, unless you have millions to buy and stake a huge amount of Hive. Hopefully we'll both have a great year here on Hive!

Even if you have a lot of money, you still need like 4 to 8 years to truly compound and multiply your investment and before then you probably have to be invested in stuffs like curation to even earn more money for your investment. However, yes, it's always easier when you have the cash, you'd do less work than the average users.

Yeah.. being a reply guy can open you to new world, knowing and creating friendship. 😊😊 I really like to engage in comment but for now, I was so busy on my INR that I cannot manage to engage more.
Anyway, I tried to be active everyday too.😀😀 Have a great New Year ahead.😊

Yes, life can get busy especially with work and other responsibilities, but just have to put in that extra effort here to get it done.

True.. I'm trying.😊😊 Hoping to achieve it.😊

I literally enjoy being the reply girl, hehe. And like you’ve rightly mentioned, there is more gains in being a reply person than just a poster.

Too bad these days I’m doing less but I hope to at least be consistent with something no matter how small it is.

Yes, you're the reply person.

Well, there are gains in posting too, I think that sometimes you may need to do the other parts before posting. There's no reply person on Hive that doesn't figure it out. It might take a long time, and unless they lose steam and concentration, it'll eventually work for them.

Yeah, that’s basically how it works. Sometimes it takes a lot of time and other times the results are just so evident even with little efforts.

The goal is to contribute our part to make hive what it should be.

unfortunately virtual friendship. I am replacing reality. and statistics come in handy. Everyone should have an overview

Yes, everyone should have

Not so impressed with mine, mine was 2000 comments in total, need to do better this year...

Well you have some school responsibilities, so I guess this is one of the reasons why.

you are right, it is one of the reasons and it messed up my timing... but i will try to catch up this year 2025...

Yeah, I think that'll be better. But I still think you did well considering how Nigerian schools can eat your time away.

I like replying to people but I haven't had as much time lately. I do try to make sure that I reply to the people in my posts. I should try to do better at responding to other replies/comments.

Well that's good. Over the years I can actually testify that you're the reply person and you take time to actually engage on the post of others too.

Congratulations for your 2024 activity on Hive!
371 posts + 6025 comments + 12K claimed HP = you are a great hiver!

Thanks a million, I think the stats are good and there are rooms to actually do better though. Thanks for all the support as well.

Being the reply guy takes gut and energy. It also takes a certain level of skill to be able to craft a good and intelligent reply. Sometimes it takes being in a good mood to be able to shine in your reply.

I think it's best to say nothing than to make bland replies. Conversations get interesting when people get interested and that takes energy.

There's a choice to, and not to. What you won't do well, then there's probably no reason to do it. If anyone wants to "Hive" and do it when then they must be better than the regular user, if not it won't work. It's just the way the chain is built. A reply person doesn't fail until they only do it for a short time

I guess what is worth doing is worth doing well.

6k is more then enough my friend, you are doing well, engagement is very important in hive.

This is where you can check the stats

Well I think it's pretty awesome what you did! 😀👍

Where I can check that stats?

Then, I'll have to work more into my commenting strategy. I always underappreciate its value, especially in a social environment. I seldom make comments on traditional social media networks, but I do always read interesting and insightful posts here on Hive.

Congratulations on the comment milestone, I think I achieve only half of that.
