Today’s Movie Selection

The Shining

A writer arrives with his family at an old hotel in Colorado. Strange visions invade his mind, the hotel’s ghosts haunt him, and as he teeters on the brink of madness, he tries to murder his loved ones.

This is the basic story of the 1980 masterpiece that has made its own mark in history, based on Stephen King’s novel and directed by Stanley Kubrick. The lead role, with a performance that has become legendary, is played by Jack Nicholson, and it is still remembered today as one of the best horror films ever made — rightfully so.

If you didn’t know, it actually started out at the time with negative reviews, but over the years it crossed over to the other side, earning the reputation it enjoys today.

A haunting snowy setting, terrifying in every sense; Nicholson’s gaze as he slowly descends into madness is riveting, while his wife and child, who complete the cast, are equally excellent.

The film’s pacing is slow, with long shots and “cold” cinematography, thus building a supernatural tension that chills you to the bone. The music score, in turn, contributes to the eerie atmosphere that gradually unfolds.
For me, it’s a masterpiece — if you haven’t seen it yet, don’t wait.

Hurry Up Tomorrow

A musician suffering from insomnia meets a strange stranger who leads him on a journey that will overturn everything he thought he knew about himself. I don’t know what’s wrong with me — even though I have the instinct to tell if a movie is a flop, I still end up watching it 😅.

🟢🟢🟢🟢

  • Barry Keoghan is perhaps the only one who delivers a notable performance in this film.
  • Directorially, it makes some attempts here and there to say something.

🔴🔴🔴🔴

  • It’s supposed to explore the complexities of the human mind… I didn’t see any of that.

  • The Weeknd should probably stick to singing; acting isn’t really his strong suit.

  • The script is all over the place — no connection, no flow, no beginning, middle, or end. 🤷‍♂️ In fact, I’m not sure there was even a script 🤣.

  • I think Jenna Ortega should stop accepting every silly project offered to her, or she’ll burn herself out.

  • The ending is borderline ridiculous.

  • Repetitive scenes with no reason to exist and absolutely no rhythm throughout the film.

  • It’s boring.
